Renowned as a vibrant university city, Iasi's cultural offerings are many and varied. The spectacular Gothic Palace of Culture is a logical place to start and is one of the iconic landmark buildings. The Three Hierarchs Church is an example of the opulence of the Byzantine era, while the Renaissance Metropolitan Cathedral is the largest Orthodox church in the country. There are numerous monasteries that define the city's long religious history, the most important of which are Galata Monastery, Cetatuia Monastery and Golia Monastery. Among the city's green spaces are the beautifully manicured Copou Park, which is home to the famous 500-year-old Eminescu's Linden Tree, and the Botanical Gardens, with its more than 2,000 species of plants.
