The resort of Calpe in the Costa Blanca in Spain is located in an area of exceptional natural beauty whose air is scented by sea salt, olive groves and almond orchards. It stretches along a gently curved bay and at its northernmost corner stands the Rock of Ifach, a gigantic rock formation rising 332 metres above the sea whose waves lap at its base. The rock has been awarded nature reserve status because of the wildlife which thrives in its nooks and crannies.
You can climb to the summit on a winding path which is carved into the rock bed itself and enjoy spectacular views. If you fancy a day on the beach there are a variety of hidden coves and golden sandy expanses where you can sunbathe, swim, or scuba dive. There is an old fishing port with a marina and yachting club for sailing, windsurfing and water skiing enthusiasts and climbers will love exploring the challenging terrain around the rocky coastline.
The town boasts a rich culture which is still very much in evidence in its traditional fish markets, festivals, museums, and the atmospheric alleyways which wind around the old town. With airport shuttles and airport taxis from Alicante Airport only 81 kilometres and Valencia and Murcia also nearby, why not treat yourself.

We were a group of six going from Alicante to Calpe and back. The two drivers we had were so friendly and helpful, putting our bags in and out of the minibus. They were on time and there was no worries or complications. Thank you so much.

With its blue flag beaches, sparkling seas and average of ten hours of sunshine throughout the summer months, the Costa Blanca in Spain is an obvious choice for a family beach holiday. But once you’ve decided on the area, picking the resort for your young family can be a little more tricky.
Do you go for the huge names like Benidorm or Alicante, where there are tons to keep the little ones busy but the beaches are heaving during the summer months, and you worry the kids might get lost in the crowd? Or do you pick somewhere along the coast which is quieter but still has access to the big resorts’ facilities if you want them?
Because I’m not great with crowds (I don’t like having to get the kids up and dressed early so that I can bag a tiny square of sand on the beach), I’ve taken several holidays along the coast in Calpe...
Here's a choice for you. Behind door number one is another week of interminable UK winter weather, with snow, sleet and commuter chaos, aka "situation normal". Behind door number two is a week's holiday chasing the winter sun in the Spanish fishing village of Calpe. Temperatures are mild, the food (especially the seafood) is amazing, there are some wonderful walks and markets, and the local culture is friendly, fun-filled and fabulous...
Good service, right on time :)
