Perched at the very top of Fuerteventura’s northern coast, the popular beach resort of Corralejo offers visitors long stretches of white sand, sparkling blue seas, and a welcoming holiday atmosphere. The town’s origins may be humble, starting out as a small fishing village, but today the lively centre – with its colourful houses, great restaurants and an upbeat atmosphere – is a firm favourite amongst sunseekers.
However, it’s mostly water sports enthusiasts who flock to the beaches of Corralejo. Whether you enjoy kitesurfing, windsurfing, bodyboarding, or splashing in the shallows, the varied beaches of this seaside resort offer a fantastic variety of water conditions, making it perfect for all sorts of activities.
Thanks to its location, the region boasts balmy waters all year round. But when it comes to catching the best waves, the spring and summer months are the best time for visitors. Flag Beach is by far the most renowned launch area for seasoned windsurfers, thanks to excellent trade winds. However, Corralejo is the perfect place for all levels, from beginners to experts.
Windsurfing for Beginners
If you’re new to windsurfing, there’s no better place to learn than somewhere famous for its windsurfing conditions. Corralejo is fully equipped for surfers of all levels, but it’s especially great for beginners. Once you’ve settled into your accommodation, I’d recommend booking yourself onto one of the excellent courses available in the area. Whether you’re a total novice or just a little rusty, the experienced instructors will be able to tailor the course to suit your needs. Choose from one, two or a three-day course, depending on your itinerary.
A single day of instruction is perfect for those already familiar with the sport, but if you’re a beginner and you only have time for one day, that’s fine too! You’ll spend three to four hours learning about the wind, currents and safety protocol, before being taught how to set up your sail and handle the board on and off the water.
The longer course will spend a little more time putting the theory into practice, and the final two days will focus on sailing across the wind and steering. You’ll also have the chance to take your Level 1 windsurfing certificate, which is great to have so you can try the sport in other parts of the world.
Best Beaches
Corralejo is a windsurfer’s paradise, so pretty much any of the beaches here is ideal for watersport fanatics. However, these are a few of my favourites that you shouldn’t miss during your trip to Fuerteventura.
Flag Beach
This is by far the most popular beach, and with good reason. Flag Beach is a short, ten-minute drive from the town centre. It’s located at the end of a stunning national park, making it spectacularly picturesque – expect white sand and sparkling blue water. I love this beach as it offers something for everyone, whether you want to get out on the waves or sit on the sand for a spot of sunbathing. Plus, both beginners and expert surfers are catered for along this coastline.
El Cotillo
This is another favourite perfectly suited to beginners of all ages. El Cotillo is well-known on the windsurfing circuit, as it’s where many begin their love affair with the sport. It has a protected lagoon, which offers shallow waters with a sandy bottom, meaning that it’s perfect for kids who want to learn the sport, as well.
Glass Beach
This would be my pick for surfers that already feel fairly confident on the water, and it’s a popular wave-riding spot during the summer. At its best, you’ll be treated to 3-metre waves that allow riders to make plenty of turns. The best time to hit the waves is after lunch, when the wind has picked up and most of the surfers have left, making room for wind and kitesurfers.
Where to Stay:
Brujula Company – This is a centrally located self-catering accommodation that offers all the home comforts, including a fully equipped kitchen and free WiFi. Corralejo Beach is located close by, which is perfect for seaside fun.
Apartamento Corralejo – This luxury two-bedroom apartment is perfect for visitors who prefer to have the freedom to cook and relax at home. It comes complete with a private patio, which is perfect for breakfast al fresco before hitting the waves.
Casa Aguamarina – This apartment is excellently located near the beach and other attractions, such as a number of local museums and the town centre. It features a host of modern amenities, including a separate living room.
How to Get There:
Getting to Fuerteventura is only a short flight from the UK, and while prices vary depending on the season, they remain affordable throughout the year. Easyjet and Ryanair offer return flights from about £60 in the spring, and the most expensive will be during August, which is something to keep in mind.
I always recommend that travellers pre-book a Fuerteventura airport transfer when organising their flights. A Fuerteventura transfer is reasonably priced but will make getting to your accommodation a hassle-free experience, meaning that you can switch into holiday mode as soon as you disembark. The journey from Fuerteventura airport to Corralejo town centre is a mere 30 minutes, so a pre-booked airport transfer will save you time as well as money.

Types of Transfer
Shuttle Direct offers a number of airport transfer types depending on your needs, budget, and preferences.
After a flight, the last thing you might want to do is wait for a shared airport taxi. Fuerteventura to Corralejo is only half an hour’s drive but I’d recommend organising a taxi to meet you at the airport. It’s a bit more expensive than the bus but much more convenient.
Shuttle Direct offers a reliable airport transfer, Fuerteventura to Corralejo is one of their many routes. I love the bus option as a cost-effective way that offers some privacy and takes away the hassle for navigating public transport.
If you have a bit of spare change in your budget, I’d suggest opting for a private transfer. Fuerteventura airport to Corralejo is a quick trip but it can be made even easier with the privacy and convenience of a private car.
Shuttle Direct’s minibuses provide a reliable airport transfer – Fuerteventura to Corralejo is no exception. I suggest this option to solo travellers or smaller groups, as the cost is split with other passengers. A Fuerteventura transfer on a minibus will reduce the stress of navigating public transport and ensure that you get to the right place in no time at all.
Choosing the Right Transfer
Selecting the best airport transfer for you is important as it can set the tone of your trip. Important factors to consider will be your budget, how much luggage you’ll have, and personal preference.
Cost: While all the options provide excellent transfer services, privacy and comfort will cost a little more. If these are important to you, then opt for the more expensive private taxi service over the shared minibus, which will be slightly lower in price.
Convenience: All Shuttle Direct drivers are experienced and knowledgeable, however, some modes of transport are more convenient than others. A taxi will be faster than a minibus, but the latter is a good way to save some money.
