Lara Beach is a great place to holiday in itself but while there you may find yourself wanting to explore the surrounding area, so here is our top three pick of what to do when you want a change from relaxing on the beach.

Antalya

Take a trip to Antalya, where you will be greeted by a whole range of attractions and plenty of things to do. There is a lovely harbour setting here and the old quarter of Kaleici is a real gem of a place to wander around. Shopping is great fun in Antalya: there are lots of bargains to be had, whether you are buying leather, cotton or ceramics. And don’t forget, you are expected to haggle! There is a good nightlife in Antalya and an evening spent here makes a nice change from Lara Beach where the evening entertainment is generally based exclusively in the hotels.

Perge

These are some of the best-kept ancient ruins in the world and a visit to Perge is definitely worth it if you are looking for a cultural diversion when in the area. Built in the 11 century BC, Perge was originally a Greek city, before being conquered by subsequent invaders. Most of the structures you see today are the remains of what the Romans left when they settled here. You can see what is left of the agora market place, the public baths, the theatre and much more. It is a fascinating place to explore with so much to see and learn.

Kursunlu Falls

In Antalya the rivers and smaller streams make their way down the valleys of the Taurus Mountains to the Mediterranean Sea. Some travel overland and some underground and along the way form beautiful natural features, such as cascading waterfalls. There are more than twenty in the region, and Kursunlu Falls are particularly spectacular. They are only 12 miles from Antalya and there are lots of walking opportunities here too, so you can easily make a day of your excursion.
