As you enter the beautiful alpine town of Briançon, you can hardly fail to notice the eye-catching, dome-topped towers of the Church of Notre Dame et St. Nicholas. This 18th-century structure is the centrepiece of the Briançon Old Town, an imposing edifice that appears to rise right out of the valley.
As you approach the church, you’ll notice the beautiful yellow-orange facade, and the painted sundial on the left-hand tower. Inside, the nave is lined with marble columns which support a magnificent vaulted ceiling. I love the peace and solitude of alpine churches, and I always make a little extra time in my holiday to visit them!
