If you’re looking for a holiday to satisfy the whole family, Torremolinos could be the perfect place for you. It’s easy enough to just lounge around on a beach when your children are babies and toddlers, but as they grow up you might find you need something a little more to keep them engaged.
If this sounds like you, read on for some of the best activities available for the whole family in this up and coming resort.
Where is Torremolinos?
A town in the southern Spanish province of Andalusia, Torremolinos sits on the famous Costa del Sol. It started as a fishing village, and while little trace of this remains it’s still quieter and quainter than nearby Benidorm.
Its long hot summers make it the perfect place to soak up the sun, and it’s a seriously popular destination among tourists from the UK, Ireland and Scandinavia. Still, its relative calm compared to some of the bigger resorts makes it suitable for the younger ones.
See the Sights from on High
Are you the kind of family who likes to get up and get out? Then why not make the trip to any of the nearby parks and reserves to explore the wonderful Andalusian countryside? There’s a lot of excursions and walking routes available, but one of the best is the Benalmádena cable car.
Running from the town of nearby Benalmádena to the summit of Mt Calamorro (771m above sea-level), this cable car offers astonishing views all the way up. Once you reach the top, you will have the perfect opportunity to explore. There are over 3km of trails to wander down – more than enough to wear you out on an afternoon’s walking!
Once you’re done, return to the summit to catch one of the excellent bird-of-prey shows. Rest your weary feet and watch these fascinating creatures take flight!
Get Up Close and Personal at the Crocodile Park
Some of nature’s oldest and most fearsome predators, crocodiles, have been on Earth for over 240 million years and, at their largest, can grow to be 18 feet long. They’re strong, fast and absolutely awe-inspiring.
Want to see these incredible creatures up close? Then be sure to make a trip to the Crocodile Park. Designed to resemble a Saharan fortress, this unique wildlife enclosure offers live demonstrations with trained staff. If you’re willing to pay a little more, you can even get a photo of yourself holding a croc!
While you’re here, be sure to check out the park’s biggest star: a giant beast weighing nearly 600kg, by the apt and well-earned name of Big Daddy.
Amazing Aqualand
Another attraction located close to Benalmádena, Aqualand is Costa del Sol’s largest water park and the perfect place for a wet and wonderful fun filled family day.
The park has a great range of slides, including…
- Boomerang: a 15m-high half-pipe.
- Anaconda: two spiralling serpentine tunnels.
- Multipista: an undulating rainbow with eight slides to choose from.
- Kamikaze: A steep drop – and not for the faint hearted!
- And many more
There’s also a great pool where you can catch your breath and relax, as well as a lazy river and a dedicated kids’ area.
Where to Stay
La Barracuda
Next to Carihuela Beach and a 15-minute drive from the airport, La Barracuda boasts a top-notch location. All rooms are air conditioned with balconies and most have sea views. A buffet restaurant and two bars are available to meet guests’ food and drink needs, while the live entertainment on offer at the lounge bar ensures a night in won’t be boring.
Hotel Puente Real
With its two outdoor pools in lush tropical gardens, bright rooms and panoramic views of the Mediterranean, the Puente Real truly gives its guests a life of luxury. It really comes alive in the summer, with barbecued food available alongside the year-round bar/café service and buffet restaurant. What’s more, families are especially well catered for, with children’s clubs, entertainment in the days and evenings and activities ranging from water polo to archery.
