Located in the south of Lanzarote, Playa Blanca is a charming resort that has won many awards for both its beauty and serene atmosphere. While it boasts stunning sandy beaches, you can also visit the gorgeous Timanfaya National Park.
Playa Blanca is the perfect place to relax, and it also offers a wide range of recreational activities. Dine out in delicious bistros, go shopping in quaint one-off boutiques and relax in luxury hotels lining the waterfront.
Relaxing on Sandy Beaches
Playa Blanca boasts three beautiful beaches, where you can spend the afternoon relaxing in a deckchair with a good book and some warm sunshine. The main beach is Playa Blanca, which is extremely clean and has stunning pristine blue waters. However, it can get quite busy. If it does, walk down the promenade to Playa Dorada. Renowned for its golden sand and warm waters, it’s a great spot to rent a sun lounger and just admire the view. If you’re on the west side of town, though, Playa Flamingo beach is your best choice. Because it’s slightly out of town, it’s less popular among tourists, making it the ideal spot for a peaceful afternoon under the sun.
Pampering at the Thalasso & Spa Centre
Thalassotherapy uses elements from the marine environment, including seawater, salt and algae, to create relaxing rituals. Whatever you fancy, this spa has a great range of pampering treatments that will leave you feeling rejuvenated. Try the algae toning treatment to revitalise your skin, or wash your cares away with an anti-stress marine salt cleansing therapy.
Shopping at the Marina Rubicon Market
Twice a week, Playa Blanca hosts the stylish Marina Rubicon Market. Sheltered between luxury boutiques and high-end cafés, it’s a distinctly upmarket shopping experience. Stroll your way down the aisles and explore the stalls while soaking up the lively atmosphere. You’ll find some unique clothes that are typical of Lanzarote, as well as local culinary delicacies and wines. Once you’ve had a good look around, you can pop into one of the chic boutiques on the Marina. The Thin Line, for example, is a charming little store that has a great selection of jewellery and luxury fashion items.
Dining at Authentic Bistros
La Chalanita
This homey restaurant is located on the waterfront, offering you a beautiful view of the promenade. With a tranquil atmosphere and a great menu, it’s a terrific place to relax in the evening. The extensive menu’s offerings include deliciously fresh seafood, which is brought to you by Lanzarote’s fishermen, as well as a variety of meat platters. The Uga smoked salmon is my favourite dish, and the red tuna fish with glazed onions and soya sauce is a real crowd pleaser.
Cofradia de Pescadores
Looking out onto the port, this restaurant has an authentic seaside feel to it. With a lovely decor and friendly staff, just sit back with a glass of wine and watch the boats come in and out of the harbour. This bistro offers a variety of fish and seafood platters. I’d recommend getting the catch of the day and asking to have it cooked a la espalda.
The Irish Anvil Bar and Restaurant
Located in Punta Limones, this bar is a taste of Englishness away from home. With its chilled ambiance, you can enjoy a pint of cold ale to top off a relaxing day out. This little restaurant serves a range of delightful homemade dishes. Their liver, bacon and mash are beautiful and tender, while the Cajun chicken is lovely and refreshing.
