Finally booked that carefree holiday to Port d’Alcúdia that you’ve been talking about for so long? Spreading out on the beach, gentle sightseeing, shopping, pulsating clubs… it couldn’t possibly get better than that, right?
Actually, it can. While most sun-seekers are already sold when they see the words “world-class beaches” and “Port d’Alcúdia” in one sentence, foodies need to dig a little deeper to discover one of the resort’s most underrated selling points: its top-notch restaurants! From glitzy eateries to come-in-your-flip-flops bistros, Port d’Alcúdia has an impressive range of gastronomic gems up its sleeve, none of which are to be missed. If your stomach’s rumbling in anticipation of your Majorcan escape, here’s some (literal) food for thought. ¡Buen provecho!
Como en Casa
Escape the town’s tourist hotspots by taking a breather at this quaint restaurant, situated on a side street just a short distance from the marina. This slightly off-the-beaten-track venue will – as its name suggests – make you feel at home immediately, thanks to its cosy ambience and wholesome dishes, which make use of local ingredients and vegetables from the restaurant’s own garden. From the refreshing mango-kiwi salad to the hearty lasagne, Como en Casa’s international menu caters to a wide variety of customers, featuring everything from healthy salads to exceptionally cheesy (and not to mention amazing) pizzas. Why not meet and mingle with the locals over a delicious lunch?
Top Tip: This restaurant has also received high kudos for its kids’ menu, which will satisfy even the pickiest of youngeaters.
Willy’s Hamburger
If the health-conscious options on Como en Casa’s menu aren’t exactly your cup of tea, don’t worry: there’s plenty of fast food on Port d’Alcúdia’s menu too!Conveniently located at the Blue Flag beach, Playa de Muro, this little bistro is a great place to go if you’re looking for a snack – or if you’re in need of a calorie bomb after drinking too many piña coladas. While the friendly owner’s name is actually Juan, the restaurant lives up to the rest of its moniker with its top-notch burgers: some say they may even be the best on the island. While this snackeria is so popular that it’s always bursting at the seams with fast food enthusiasts, you’ll know that it was worth the wait once you’ve taken the first bite of your cheeseburger, garlic pork loin or Spanish tortilla. Wash it all down with a glass of freshly made sangria and you’ll never look back.
Restaurante Jardín
If you’re looking to glam up your beach holiday, the Mediterranean-style Restaurante Jardín is the answer – it doesn’t have a Michelin star for nothing! While its exterior is quite unremarkable, your taste buds will thank you forever when you treat them to the 11-course menu (yes, you read that correctly). From snazzy white prawns to mussels infused with sage and orange, get ready for immaculate presentation and delicate flavour combinations. Just be sure to change out of your beachwear beforehand and dress to impress!
Top Tip: This restaurant is very popular and tends to get busy, so avoid disappointment by making a reservation before you go.
Miramar
The Miramar has been around in some shape or form since 1871, and it’s certainly perfected its gastronomic offerings over the years. Apart from the first-class menu, which consists of a host of fresh seafood sensations, the restaurant boasts a spectacular waterfront location. Although it’s an ideal spot for anyone in search of an authentic Majorcan meal, there’s nothing quite as lovely as taking in the atmosphere with a glass of champagne in hand and your significant other at your side. If you’re up for a challenge, sharing the magnificent seafood platter will be right up your alley!
How to Get to Port d’Alcúdia
Port d’Alcúdia and its mouth-watering restaurants are easier to reach than you might expect. If you fly into Palma Mallorca Airport (PMI), you’re only looking at a flight time of about two and a half hours from the UK – just enough time to get your holiday plans in order. The trip also won’t break the bank, as it’s offered by several reputable budget airlines, including Ryanair and easyJet. Easy and economical all in one!
Upon arriving at the airport, don’t slow down your journey by opting for public transportation; instead, maximise your time at the beach (and in the restaurants) by opting for a shared or private transfer with Shuttle Direct. This reliable service will send a driver to meet you at the airport terminal, help you with your luggage and take you directly to your accommodation in as little as 40 minutes. It’s inexpensive, straightforward and door-to-door… need I say more?
