Palais de L’Ille, in the picturesque French town of Annecy, is not to be missed when visiting the ‘Venice of the Alps’. Whether Annecy is your destination or you’re just passing through on your way from Geneva Airport to a ski resort – a visit to the Old Town, which is dominated by this iconic ‘Palace’, is definitely worth it.
While you’re there, I recommend a visit to the museum, where you can find a small exhibition of artworks and photographs illustrating the (rather grim) story of the unusual building, which was used as a prison in the Middle Ages and by the Germans in WW2 too. You’ll be able to get an insight into the wider history of Annecy itself, and I promise that you’ll come out seeing the Old Town with much more interest and understanding.
Annecy can be reached from Geneva Airport by airport transfer in approximately 40 minutes. Choose the vehicle that suits you best, and we’ll make sure to pick you up from Arrivals well on time.
