Out and About in Magaluf

While Mallorca is well known for its appeal to the package holiday market of tourists flying in for their once a year dose of sun, Magaluf, perhaps more so than any other place on the island, has a reputation as a resort for non-stop fun and games. A summer destination of choice not only with young, single holidaymakers, Magaluf’s image is definitely on the up and up, and its popularity with families and couples is also growing.

Here’s just a taste of some of the things you can enjoy in Magaluf.

The Beach and Beyond

Magaluf’s main beach – Platja de Magaluf – is well-maintained and facilitated, not to mention very long. Stretching for nearly a kilometre, the fine sand beach and the clear water are a magnet for holidaymakers – so don’t expect serenity. The vibrant nature of the beach is half the fun, though, and with a range of water sports, lots of cafes and restaurants and a good selection of bars, you’ll never be bored. If you’re feeling energetic, take on the challenge of the 400-metre swim out to Black Lizard Island, named for its black lizards!

From Market to Market

It’s Spain after all, so you never have to look too far for a market. Whether you want to browse for souvenirs or shop for some authentic local food delicacies, a visit to a market will give you a taste of island life at its most colourful. Every Monday there’s a good sized food, fashion and craft market in nearby Calvia, while the markets held in Andratx every Wednesday date back to the 19th century.

The Nightlife

If you haven’t heard about the legendary nightlife of Magaluf it may take you by surprise! The famous strip of bars, restaurants and shops that runs along the beachfront is pumping at any time of the day, but after dark its reputation as the nightlife capital of Mallorca takes on a life of its own. If you’re not the partying kind, you’re perhaps best served to stay safely tucked up inside, but if you’re up for a party, you’ve found it.

As well as the attractions of the resort itself, Magaluf’s easy proximity to nearby towns like Calvia, Torrenova and Palma Nova means it’s easy to escape the hustle and bustle and explore some of the region’s more tranquil areas as well.
