Much to Rave about Rhodes

So you’ve got the grades and now the whole summer stretches before you – this is what all those hours cramming in the uni library/down the pub were for! If you’re looking for inspiration on where to go for a post-exam summer blowout with your mates, then the Greek island of Rhodes has got it all: beaches that are so good they’re named after Hollywood stars, a range of water sports with lots of opportunities for lessons or going solo, and a cracking nightlife. Read on and get your passport ready…

Water Sports at Lindos Beach

Make Lardos Bay your playground with a day of water sports at the Hotel Lindos Princess. Go on an hour-long guided jet ski tour of the beautiful coastline of Rhodes; take an intensive windsurfing course over five 2-hour lessons and gain an accredited certificate; and find out who’s the poser in the gang with some rounds of waterskiing. Whatever rocks your boat, all sessions can be pitched at either beginner or intermediate level depending upon your experience, and the water sports centre has many professional instructors who’ll have you making waves in no time.

Chilling at Anthony Quinn Beach

Anthony Quinn beach is a gem, and not just because of its beauty. It’s only 250 metres long and 10 metres wide, so if you want to grab a prime spot you’ll need to be there early! It’s well worth the effort though – after ‘working’ on your tan in perfect bliss, there are some great places for snorkelling too. And what’s in the name? Film aficionados will know, but if you’re not an expert on 1960s war films (me neither!) then the beach is named after the eponymous American actor, who starred in the 1961 film The Guns of Navarone – scenes from the movie featuring Quinn were filmed on the beach.

Letting Loose at Bed Rock at Night

After a day of water sports and beach time get yourself down to Bed Rock in Faliraki for a long night of partying. It touts itself as the number one club in town, and it certainly lives up to its reputation. Saturdays are big in particular, with the club’s legendary insomnia parties carrying you through to dawn with some smooth soul and an always popular karaoke screen – you know you want to! If you need to take five before you plunge back in for some more serenading or dancing, there’s an outside terrace with comfy leather sofas too.

How to Get to Rhodes

There are plenty of direct flights from all London airports to Rhodes Airport, including from Thomas Cook Airlines, easyJet and jet2 – flights typically take four hours and prices for returns are reasonable. Before you jet off though why not guarantee yourself a stress-free start to your summer break by pre-booking transfer from Rhodes Airport to your accommodation with Shuttle Direct? Save money right from the beginning by reserving seats on our budget-friendly shuttle bus service, which will drop you off close to your accommodation. Or if you’d prefer to go direct then a shared ride in one of our comfortable taxis is the perfect option. Whatever you decide, our drivers are always on-time, so expect a friendly welcome and speedy departure once you’ve fought your way through arrivals.

Where to Stay

Pine Trees Art Hotel – Located in Ixia, the cosy Pine Trees Art Hotel has its own outdoor pool and sun loungers, so it’s a great place to chill if you wake up after a heavy night out and decide the beach is too much of a stretch. In case all that sun and sand is wearing you out (unlikely I know) you can also treat yourself to a massage, while free WiFi is available throughout the hotel – perfect for Instagramming your holiday snaps!

Rodian Gallery Hotel Apartments – With an excellent location in Rhodes Town right by the beach, facilities to cook for yourself and amazing views of the Aegean, Rodian Gallery Hotel Apartments is a real winner. Throw in free WiFi, a café-restaurant on the first floor and a casino right across the road for when you’re feeling lucky, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find somewhere better-suited to you and your friends’ needs.

Nafsika Hotel – Just a minute’s walk from Elli Beach and only a little further to the bars and cafes of Rhodes Town, Nafsika Hotel is perfectly situated for entertainment day and night and is great value. Their buffet breakfast is a great way to start the day if you’re planning on some water sports, and of course there’s free WiFi.
