If you’ve seen the TV series “What Happens in Kavos”, you’ll know this lively resort in the south of Corfu, Greece is one destination that’s not for the fainthearted. If you’re not willing to party hard you’ll fall by the wayside, but it’s no secret that Kavos’ unreserved, unapologetic, party-hard atmosphere is exactly what the fun police ordered for the best boys’ getaway you’ve ever had!
Aside from the nightlife and club culture, Kavos is one of the most activity-rich places on Corfu, because, even though it may seem so at times, a lads’ break is not all about beer, babes and beats. Here are a few of the other things you can get up to on your lads’ break.
Best Fun-Fuelled Activities
It doesn’t take a genius (but congratulations anyhow) to figure out that most of the fun around Kavos is focused in, on, or under the water. Head to the beach and, once the novelty of a bucket and spade has worn off, you can take a walk on the wild side with these fantastic activities.
Speed Boat Rides
When you see the word ‘crazy’ in the company name you know you’re in for something special. And something special is just what you’ll get on the Crazy Speedboat! The ultimate day of fun and, yes, craziness, you’ll set off from the jetty and get straight into the action. The full-throttle ride on an ex-military speed boat takes you out to explore the Mortos sea cave, enjoy snorkelling and champagne (excuse us!) in a crystal clear lagoon, and a heart-in-mouth twisting, turning finale ride to get you home. All the fun is captured on Go-Pro, so the proof is yours edited and ready for upload to the world – for a price of course!
A trip with Crazy Speedboat costs €40 per person and includes snorkel equipment and champagne or soft drink. If your mates can fill the capacity (14) you can book out a private tour.
Stand Up Paddle-boarding (SUP)
If you haven’t SUP’d you haven’t cottoned on to one of the fastest-growing crazes in the world! While it looks like a surfboard, you don’t need any waves because you get to use a paddle to get you around. It’s actually a cross between surfing and kayaking, and just as much fun (if not more) than both. The calm waters around Kavos are ideal for stand up paddle boarding (but give it a miss if conditions are a bit choppy) and it makes for one of the best core workouts you can get – so you can eat that extra souvlaki guilt-free! (If you’re not confident in your balancing abilities you can opt for a slide-seat open water board instead.)
The Asprokavos Watersports Centre (just 5 minutes from the town centre) hires out SUP’s for €10 an hour. Open every day from 10am-6pm.
Reach for the Sky – Parasailing
Head up into the big blue and get a bird’s eye view of Corfu from hundreds of feet in the air. You don’t need any skills to parasail (but you do need a love of heights) and you can choose to fly on your own or two at a time. Setting off from the deck of a boat, you’ll glide above the tranquil waters of Asprokavos bay to get incredible views down the south coast of Corfu, with the wind in your hair and the salt spray on your face. If you’re lucky enough to have your own Go-Pro, now’s the time to get it on your head!
Take to the skies with Asprokavos Watersports, with a 10 minute parasailing experience starting at €35 per person. Open every day from 10am-6pm.
Burn Baby Burn – Getting Hot on Kavos Beach
On the days you’re looking for a little downtime and just want to chill in the sun without expending too much energy, head straight back to the beach!
Very popular with the Brits abroad, you’ll feel right at home on big, beautiful Kavos Beach. With three gorgeous kilometres of sand lapped by the Ionian Sea, you’ll barely have to move a muscle to make the most of this fun-and-sun-filled expanse of beach.
There are plenty of bars and cafes right on the beach to keep up your energy levels, as well as umbrellas, sunbeds, showers and all the other facilities you need. As well as the water sports mentioned above, you can also try your hand at:
- Jet skis
- Wakeboards
- Flyboards
- Flyfish
- Inflatables
- Water skiing
- Barefoot skiing
- Pedaloes
- Canoes
- Donuts
- Bungee
- Catapulting
Tip: If you’re looking for somewhere a little bit quieter to sleep off a big night out, head south along the main Kavos beach to Asprokavos, or north about the same distance to Agios Petros.
Whether your idea of heaven is just lying on the beach topping up your tan, or getting out there and pushing your adrenaline to the max with some high-octane water sports, “what happens in Kavos” is actually going to keep you quite busy!
Tip: If you love the Greek way of life and want to start planning another big boys’ break with your mates, Kos is another fantastic option. Read this blog post to find out a bit more.
