“Here’s a good recommendation: visit Puerto de la Cruz during the annual Sardine Festival! The former fishing village on Tenerife really comes to life as people gather around on Charco Square and its fishing port and play games in the sun. A few days before the main procession a rather quirky tradition takes place too: a huge sardine made of papier marche is wheeled through the town down to the waterfront, where it is blessed with “holy water” (petrol) and consequently set on fire… A fireworks display finalises the event, dubbed “Burial of the Sardine”.” – Bruno, Manager at Shuttle Direct
