Innsbruck in a beautiful place to visit at any time of year, but winter is when this Austrian town really comes to life. A top destination for winter sports fanatics, Innsbruck is also renowned for its Christmas markets. I recommend the market in the Old Town, which takes place in the square right in front of Innsbruck’s most famous landmark, the Golden Roof. Beneath a towering Christmas tree bedecked with twinkling light, you can browse some 70 market stalls selling handicrafts and ornaments.
Keep warm with a mug of mulled wine, or nibble on kiachln, fried yeasted doughnuts popular at Christmastime. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy the holiday season!
