St Anton Am Arlberg is a world renowned skiing destination with a rich and vibrant history. One of the earliest sites for Alpine skiing, this resort has been attracting skiers for over a century, and when you arrive here and realise what it has to offer, it is easy to see why people have never stopped coming!
With a huge number of pistes, the winter season is a fantastic time to hit the slopes, but the resort has something to offer guests no matter what time of year they arrive. Read on to learn more.
A Spring and Summer Adventure
Arriving in this Alpine area in the spring and summer is a great way to introduce the whole family to some of the wonderous natural attractions that St Anton Am Arlberg has to offer.
Senn’s Wonder Walking Trail
The looped walking trail high above St Anton is a great way to get the kids (and the adults) learning about nature. There are interactive points throughout the trail that reveal fun facts about the exciting animals and plants that you can see along the walk. This Alpine environment is sure to interest the whole family.
Stockibach Creek
The creek is a great way to see more of the natural wonder in this region. Travel by trail up from St Anton to the Stockibach waterfall where the overwhelming noise of the water will provide awe inspiring scenes for you and your family. The viewing platform here provides wonderful vistas of the area, and with the mountains, waterfalls and plant-life nearby, it’s a great spot for some holiday snaps.
Relax and Learn
While St Anton Am Arlberg is a wonderful place to get outdoors in any season, sometimes the weather can put a stop to even the best laid plans! Thankfully, there is plenty to do in this area that makes the most of the inside spaces. Whether you want to relax, exercise or gain a valuable learning experience, St Anton has something for everybody.
Local Heritage Museum
A great place to spend a rainy day, this museum is fun for kids and adults alike. Housed in a fantastic mansion, the guided tour is worthwhile, as you walk the exquisite old house learning about the history of St Anton as a ski resort. The area has such an interesting and distinct history that it is hard not to be captivated by the exhibits housed in the museum.
Relax Throughout the Year
It doesn’t matter what time of year you’re visiting the region, if you’re like me you like to enjoy your downtime, and the leisure centre is a great spot to do just that. You can enjoy water activities both inside and outside in the heated pool, and for the kids, there are sports facilities and children’s pools.
Top Tip: Enjoy a drink or a snack after a hard day relaxing at the leisure centre – the pool bar is a great spot to enjoy a tasty treat.
A Winter Highlight
Although St Anton Am Arlberg is enjoyable at any time of year, the winter-sports on offer are what makes this region as captivating as it is. Explore and allow your family to enjoy the snow in a place that is historically renowned for great winter fun.
To the Top of the Mountain
At over 2000 metres, the highest point of the resort (reachable by ski-lift) provides skilled skiers with a number of challenging slopes. If you or someone in your family are just starting out then there is a perfect middle-ground, where a ski-lift brings you out on some wide, easy-going slopes that are sure to test your abilities in a safe and fun environment. It is one of the biggest ski resorts in the whole Alpine region, so there will never be a shortage of slopes for you to try out.
Freestylers
If you or your kids fancy trying out the freestyle parks, then the region has a few top choices. The renowned Stanton Park provides a great opportunity for budding snowboarders and skiers to try out their skills.
Get Climbing
Skiing and snowboarding aren’t the only fun things to do here in winter. I’d recommend the fixed-rope climbing area which is a safe and exhilarating way to get some great views of the region. Climbing to the top might be a bit more effort than your usual après ski, but the images you’ll capture will be breath-taking.
Where to Stay
Landhaus Albert Murr – Located only five minutes away from the cable cars, this guest house combines a classic look with a warm and cosy atmosphere. Guests can enjoy regional specialities during the morning’s breakfast buffet and there’s a handy supermarket nearby so you can prepare your own meals as well.
Hotel Sailer – At just over 100m between the Hotel Sailer and two ski lifts, this is as well located as they come, and you won’t even need to take your skis off to reach your hotel. The traditional décor is a great setting for relaxing in the café bar, or enjoying the authentic Austrian cuisine served each day.
