Find the Charm in Costa Calma

If you’re looking for a truly relaxing summer getaway then look no further than Costa Calma. Even the name sounds relaxing, doesn’t it? This beautiful resort is located in the south of Fuerteventura, right at the top of the Jandia Peninsula. Although the resort is a relatively young tourist destination – built in the 1970s – it has fast become one of the leading destinations for a relaxing beach holiday.

Thanks to its incredible location, near the beautiful Jandia Natural Park, Costa Calma is renowned for its spectacular scenery and, of course, its beaches. Known as the gateway to the Sotavento beaches, visitors are blessed with seemingly untouched stretches of golden sands and quiet coves. It’s also a fantastic spot for windsurfing, with great trade winds making it a favourite location for both experienced and novice surfers.

Explore the Charm of the Costa Calma

It might be a relaxed destination but there is plenty to do on the Costa Calma. Here’s a few of my favourite ways to pass the time in this small slice of paradise.

Beach Day!

This is what the region is known for, so you have to dedicate at least one day to exploring the local beaches. There are two white sandy coastlines on offer that are located conveniently to the resort: Playa de Costa Calma and Playa de Esmeralda. At both, the waters are shallow, calm, and inviting, making it perfect for families or those looking for a relaxing day. However,  if you only have time for one beach, make it Playa Sotavento, where the spectacular sands and the blue lagoon offer incredible photo opportunities.

If you want to get the blood pumping, there’s also a number of great surf schools teaching wind and kitesurfing in the nearby town of La Pared. In this surfers’ paradise, it’s definitely worth a try!

Try a Boat Cruise

See the Jandia Natural Park from a new perspective with a boat cruise through the aquamarine waters. Not only is it incredibly relaxing but you’ll also have the chance to spot whales and dolphins!

Visit Oasis Park

Discover the beautiful local flora and fauna at Oasis Park, which offers fun for all the family. This beautifully maintained park is easy to get to and offers a cool respite from those particularly hot days.

Take a Hike

One of the charms of Costa Calma is its proximity to Jandia Natural Park, which is one of the most beautiful parts of the Canary Islands. Hiking to the top of Pico de la Zarza is a fun activity and you’ll be rewarded with an incredible view of the surrounding beaches and landscape.

Where to Stay:

H10 Tindaya  – This is a modern hotel with an ideal location right on the sandy beaches of Costa Calma. There are three refreshing pools to choose from, as well as a relaxing spa and fun mini-golf course.

Fuertevillage – These chic villas offer stunning sea views, private parking, and free WiFi throughout. Expect all the conveniences of a hotel with the ease and privacy of a private villa.

Casamarena – This fully-equipped apartment boasts sea views and is set in the perfect location for exploring all that the Costa Calma has to offer, such as hiking, cycling and even golf.

How to Get There:

Fuerteventura is easy to get to from the UK, with a number of airlines offering short flights to this popular holiday destination. For example, Easyjet and Ryanair offer flights from about £60 in the spring, while the most expensive trips will be during August.

I would highly recommend that you pre-book a Fuerteventura airport transfer alongside your flights. A Fuerteventura transfer will make getting to your accommodation a hassle-free experience, meaning the holiday vibes can begin as soon as you disembark. An airport transfer from Fuerteventura airport to Costa Calma town centre will take about one hour, but an experienced driver will ensure that you get to your accommodation as quickly and safely as possible. Plus, a pre-booked airport transfer will save you time as well as money.

Types of Transfer

Shuttle Direct offers a number of airport transfer types depending on your needs, budget, and preferences.

Taxi:

Even after a short flight, you don’t want to start your holiday by waiting for an airport taxi. Fuerteventura to Costa Calma is about an hour’s drive but I’d recommend organising a taxi to meet you at the airport. This is the most convenient Fuerteventura airport transfer.

Shuttle Bus:

Shuttle Direct offers a very reliable airport transfer; Fuerteventura to Costa Calma is a popular and well-known service. If you want to save some money but avoid the hassle of navigating public transport, this option is perfect.

Private Transfer:

Alternatively, if you’re happy to splash out for extra comfort and privacy, I’d suggest booking a private transfer. Fuerteventura airport to Costa Calma is a fairly short trip but it can be made even easier with the ease of a private car.

Minibus Transfer:

Shuttle Direct’s minibuses are a fantastic airport transfer – Fuerteventura to Costa Calma is a well-known route. A minibus will reduce the stress of using public transport and ensure that you get to the right place in no time at all.

Choosing the Right Transfer

It’s very important to choose the best airport transfer for you. A bad experience at the outset can upset your entire holiday! Think about your budget, how you like to travel, the size of your group, and how much luggage you intend to bring.

Cost: Of course, premium comfort and convenience come at a price, but if it’s important to you that you travel in style you might want to choose the more expensive private taxi service over a shared minibus.

Convenience: Convenience is of the utmost convenience to some people, while for others, it’s all about the price. A taxi is a faster and more convenient door-to-door option than a minibus, so bear that in mind if convenience is a priority.
