Corfu is a dream holiday destination if there ever was one. Steeped in mesmerising history, blessed with sparkling sea-views and incredible scenery and, of course, the Greek food! It is one of my favourite destinations to go to when I want to truly lose myself in a place. If this is your first time visiting, then I’d suggest making the town of Acharavi your base – otherwise known as ‘Corfu’s Northern Paradise’.
Explore Beautiful Acharavi
A little history
Set between Kassiopi and Roda, Acharavi is a great place to call home while you’re exploring all that Corfu has to offer, but it’s also got a few charms of its own, including a fascinating history. According to legend, the area was called “Ivi” in Ancient Greece, which was to honour the daughter of Zeus, who was a symbol of youth. From this we can assume that it was a place known for its vitality. The ancient city was destroyed in 32 BC by the Roman emperor, Octavian, and sadly the name was changed to mean “thankless life”.
Despite the somewhat sad history, there’s still plenty of fun things to do in Acharavi.
Things to do
The Roman Baths
Whether you’re interested in history or not, this is a cool place to visit. This archaeological site was discovered in 1985, revealing remains of a vast Roman mansion. This includes the famous baths, the incredible underfloor heating system common to such homes, and a system of sewers. It really is a fascinating place.
The Folklore Museum
Opposite the baths you’ll find another interesting site. This museum is a collection of all kinds of oddities, from objects and photographs to drawings that reveal the stories of Corfu’s past and present. It offers a wonderful insight into the history and culture of the island.
Beaches
The main beach offers three kilometres of untouched sandy heaven. The water is pretty shallow, so it’s the perfect place to relax and cool off with a gentle paddle. You’ll find all the amenities here as well as some great local tavernas. This is a good place to try some watersports, too, such as snorkelling or diving.
Waterpark
If you need to cool off and want to try something different and just pure fun, then be sure to visit the Hydropolis Water Park. Open all summer, it offers something for everyone – from the lazy river to more thrilling slides.
The Corfu Trail
For nature lovers, the Corfu Trail is a fun way to get active and discover the beauty of the island’s flora and fauna. Part of the route can be accessed from Acharavi and offers splendid views of the mountainous landscape – it’s great for those who like to stay active on holiday.
Where to Stay:
Filorian Hotel Apartments – Airy self-catered accommodation right on the main beach. Guests also have access to a pool, terrace and outdoor bar.
Abraham Apartments – Beautiful apartments boasting stunning sea-views and all the essentials you might need. Free WiFi is also included.
Beachside Bungalows – Air-conditioned bungalows with a private garden and sea-views. Guests can enjoy a home cooked meal with a fully-equipped kitchen as well.
How to Get There:
A number of airlines offer direct flights from the UK to Corfu throughout the year, including Ryanair, Easyjet, Finnair and more. The cheapest flights are during the off-season, in months such as October, but reasonable prices are also available during June and July. August is the most expensive month at £127 for a round trip.
I like to recommend that travellers, solo or with a group, pre-book a Corfu airport transfer to make the journey from Corfu Airport to Acharavi safe and simple. An Acharavi transfer will ensure that your trip begins completely hassle-free, and it means that there will be no stress during your airport transfer.

A perfect option for people travelling alone or those who want security and convenience, without the worry of having to navigate public transport is a pre-booked airport taxi. Corfu airport to Acharavi is almost an hour’s drive so having that extra comfort is also a plus.
This is a great option for the budget-minded and one of my favourite types of airport transfer. A trip from Corfu airport to Acharavi will fly by with this shared service and you might meet some new friends too!
For complete privacy and safety, this is the premium service: the private transfer. Corfu airport to Acharavi is a luxurious trip with this service, and you’ll be at your accommodation in no time.
Finally, you have the option of a minibus, which is great for those who don’t mind company and are looking to save a few pounds. This Acharavi transfer is simple and very popular with people travelling with a large group and lots of luggage.
Choosing the Right Transfer
Finding the right airport transfer is important, as this is how you start and end your trip. Shuttle Direct can help you decide which is the best service to suit your needs and your budget.
Cost: If you need to watch the pounds and pennies, the best option for your holiday will be to travel on a shared shuttle service. Because you’re travelling with others, the cost is cheaper as it is shared.
Convenience: If money isn’t a concern and you’re more interested in convenience and luxury, one of the services like a taxi or private airport transfer will be more what you’re looking for.
