But, instead of opting for your go-to chicken salad or cheese sandwich, why not indulge in these up-and-coming delicacies? Let’s see how Spain, Turkey, and Poland take sandwiches to a whole new level of tastiness.

1. Bocadillo

First up: Spain’s most beloved bread creation. The Bocadillo consists of a crispy baguette that is loaded with succulent meat, melted cheese or a delectable omelette…or all of those things, if you’re feeling adventurous. To top it all off, add some fresh tomatoes, tangy gherkins or fresh salad to enhance the Bocadillo’s juiciness.

2. Döner Kebab

If you’re a sandwich fanatic like me, you’ll surely have heard of the Döner Kebab: one of Turkey’s most iconic on-the-go snacks. Over the past decade, this treat has gone viral all across Germany for a delicious reason: it consists of pita filled with roasted lamb shavings, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and yogurt sauce. To spice things up, trickle some chilli sauce over the meat or add some peppered red cabbage to the mix.  Yum!

3. Zapiekanka

Cutting down on carbs? No problem – this mouth-watering Polish specialty has you covered. Instead of ‘sandwiching’ cheese, cold cuts and condiments between two bread slices, the Polish have a different approach: when you only use one slice, you can pile on all the more ingredients. The Zapiekanka, supported by half a baguette, is topped with loads of cheese, sautéed mushrooms and piquant tomato paste. Grab them to go at a Polish street corner or make them at home… it’s a simple and satisfying treat.

Crispy fresh bread, cheese and cold cuts and vegetable galore – what more could you want? It’s time to stop loafing around: get ready to roll and try these three European delicacies. Thanks to Spain, Turkey and Poland, you can enjoy innovative sandwiches at any time of year.
