Escape to the Quieter Beaches Around Playa del Inglés

When you live in a busy and overcrowded city, sometimes all you crave is the serenity of a luxury holiday where you can pamper yourself and recharge…

Let’s be honest though, this relaxation can sometimes be interrupted by other noisy holiday goers! Fortunately, though the Gran Canaria is famous for its boisterous atmosphere, it’s also home to a few hidden gems which let you escape the crowds. Tucked away from Playa del Inglés and other touristy areas, there are many quieter beaches where you can relieve your stress – you just need to know where to look!

For more tips on how to make the most of your relaxing getaway, read our luxury holiday guide to Gran Canaria.

Playa de Las Mujeres

Playa de Las Mujeres is a quiet little beach. With no road signs for guidance, it can be tricky to spot, so you might want to use a GPS to find it. You’ll then have to cross rocky and gravelly hills to reach the beach.

About Playa de Las Mujeres

Playa de Las Mujeres boasts 100 metres of soft grey sand framed by rocky hills. It’s never busy and is favoured by 30- to 50-years old who don’t have kids (hurray- no loud or bustling tourist families!). If you’re feeling particularly risqué, you can even go skinny dipping in the neighbouring bay where there is a nudist beach (time to flaunt that body!)

Playa de Tasartico

Smaller than its neighbouring beaches, Playa de Tasartico is somewhat hard to reach -but well worth the effort! Drive or take a bus to Cruz de Tasartico and then embark on a friendly two-and-a-half hour walk down the hamlet to the beach. When you reach Tasartico, you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful rocky scenery and a cool dip in the Atlantic’s refreshing waters.

About Playa de Tasartico

If, like me, your favourite holidays start with a good book and an afternoon spent basking in the warmth of the sun, I might have found the perfect place for both of us. As a small and cornered-off area, Playa de Tasartico naturally creates the ultimate sun trap to revitalise your skin. Don’t be put off because it’s a little challenging to access – think of this as your gateway to exclusivity. Few people attend the beach, so quiet and serenity is practically guaranteed.

Playa Boca Barranco

Just a short 15-minute drive from the centre of town, you can reach Playa Boca Barranco via the GC-3. It’s then just a short walk from the car park to the beach.

About Playa Boca Barranco

Located on the North side of Gran Canaria, Playa Boca Barranco is full of surprises. The high waves and strong current have made it unsuitable for swimming. Fear not, though, as the beach is salvaged by its unique and distinguishing feature: its natural swimming pool. Directly behind the rocks that border the beach, the pool is ideal to cool off in (and attracts the sun for better tanning!). With plenty of space to lie down, you can spend a pleasant afternoon away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist attractions and enjoy the wonderful view of the waves.

Playa de Veril

As it’s well sign-posted, getting to Playa de Veril is easy. You can get there by bus (several leave from the town centre).

About Playa de Veril

For a little peace and quiet, Playa de Veril is the place to be. Though it’s divided into two smaller bays, I’d recommend the first bay. Its denser greenery is more inviting and it has comfortable loungers. If you get there in the early morning, you can secure a seat, stretch out and watch the sunrise change the sky’s colours.
