Family Ski Holidays

It’s true that skiing isn’t the preserve of the rich and famous ‘jet set’ as it was in the middle of the last century. Even so, few people would describe a typical ski holiday in the Alps as being a ‘cheap’ break today either.

While budget holidays have made a huge impact in reducing the costs over recent decades, it’s probably fair to say that many families are still looking to keep their costs as low as possible while on and around the slopes. If you consider yourself to be in that category, then you might want to think about ski lift passes.

Méribel’s Options

The first point to keep in mind though is that you’ll need to be prepared to do a bit of research.

At the time of writing there are a number of ways you can keep your ski lift costs down when visiting Méribel:

  • Three Valleys Multi Day Passes. These have two advantages. The first is that they allow you to use the lifts just about anywhere in the vast Three Valleys ski resort. The second is that if you buy a six-day pass, you can also benefit from great group reductions as outlined below.
  • Group reductions. At the moment, there are four options available – the Single, Duo, Tribu (three or more in a group) and Family (a minimum of two adults and two children under 18). The savings per person can be significant and well worth having.

Using the two options together when visiting Méribel, can help save a fair amount of money as opposed to simply paying for the lifts as you need them. Granted, the savings aren’t eye-watering but they’re worth having all the same and in some cases, might be as high as 10 or 15 Euros.

Time

This piece of advice isn’t only about cost, though. Unless you really enjoy standing in lengthy queues at lift pass sales offices, constantly rotating your head through 360 degrees watching for queue-jumpers, these passes are a must.

Most of us go skiing to actually spend as much of our time as possible on the slopes and as little as we can get away with queuing up to buy tickets. Quite literally, the more time you’re trying to buy tickets, then the less time you’ll be on the snow and enjoying yourself.

Buy Online

You can buy ski lift passes locally but you can also do so online.

Once again, if you’re less than thrilled by the thought of wasting your holiday time doing something other than skiing or après-ski, then you might want to think about buying your passes online and in advance. It’s easy and convenient and something you can take care of when you’re first confirming your travel plans for visiting Méribel.
