The resort has a buzzing vibe and there are plenty of excellent restaurants and souvenir shops to wander around. There is a historical side to Marmaris too and you can visit the restored castle of Suleyman the Magnificent as well as the old quarter of the original town.

One of the big advantages of Marmaris is its proximity to many other famous attractions, most of which can be enjoyed on a day excursion. Here we outline our top three.

Dalyan From Marmaris

One of the most popular day trips from the resort is a trip to Dalyan, which takes in the beautiful Turtle Beach, the famous mud baths and the incredible Kings Tombs. Dalyan itself has an appeal in both its historical interest and it natural beauty and on a day trip to the area you will feel like you are in another world. Once you have arrived in Dalyan you will head out on the local riverboats that will take you right up to the famous sites. After sailing through the weaving passages of the delta, you will arrive at Turtle Beach, which is bordered by salt water on one side and fresh water on the other. It is well known as one of the last breeding grounds for the Sea Turtles and you will have a chance to relax here for an hour or two.

As you continue on to the mud baths, the boat tour will take in the dramatic rock tombs that are the burial sites of the Kings of ancient Lycia. Then it is on to the thermal springs and delightful mud baths that are said to have healing properties for many common ailments. You can indulge in one and see for yourself.

Pamukkale

This stunning site is definitely worth taking a day out for. The rich thermal waters that have poured down the hillsides here have, over time, formed the spectacular rock face you see today. Almost like a waterfall frozen in time, the rolling lime deposits interspersed with mineral pools are simply marvellous. Pamukkale is definitely one of Mother Nature’s most beautiful pieces of work. On a trip to visit this site you can also take a stroll around the ancient site of Hierapolis, which makes a worthwhile addition.

This excursion is only available from April to October.

A Jeep Safari

How about getting off the beaten track for a day when you are on your holiday in Marmaris? If you need to get away from it all then book a Jeep safari. Head off into the beautiful countryside of the Bozburun Peninsula and Marmaris National Park, marvel at the views and enjoy a thrilling ride over dirt tracks and asphalt lanes through some of the area’s most remote parts. You will stop at the 2000-year-old tree, which you can walk three times around and make a wish. You can swim in the cool waterfalls and even find yourself walking on water at Jesus beach. This popular excursion is driven by expert drivers and safety is a priority.
