Tenerife Shore Excursions

Standing in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Africa, Tenerife is the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands. Geographically, these islands are best known for their volcanic landscapes with Mount Teide in the centre of Tenerife the most famous feature. This active volcano, standing at 3,718-metres (12,198 ft), is the highest peak in Spain and the most visited attraction in the Canaries. Thanks to a mild year-round climate Tenerife has long been a favourite destination of European holidaymakers. Most of the 5 million holidaymakers who visit the island every year head for the popular resorts of Playa de las

Los Cristianos may not be known as the most budget-friendly area of Tenerife (for this you will want to look in the north of the island), but if you are seeking golden sandy beaches and luxurious facilities then I have a few suggestions for affordable family-friendly hotels on the south east coast. Top Family Days Out on Tenerife

Let’s face it, even though they love the beach, there’s only so much time young children will be kept happy with sandcastles, paddling and beach balls before they get tired of watching mum and dad relaxing on the sun loungers. When this happens, it might be time for an excursion – and luckily, Tenerife has a fantastic amount for families to do.

With its beautiful sandy beaches, warm sunshine, outdoor swimming pools and playgrounds, Tenerife is the perfect location for a holiday with small children, made even better by the great range of day trips your little ones can enjoy.

Puerto de la Cruz

Taste Tenerife in Puerto de la Cruz’s Fishing District

If you’re looking for traditional fishing village charm and authentic Canarian cuisine then the Ranilla District of Puerto de la Cruz on the Spanish island of Tenerife is the ideal place to head to. While much of Tenerife has bowed under the pressure of modern tourism demands, Puerto de la Cruz has held its head high and retained much of its traditional appeal.

One of the first tourist hot spots in Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz became fashionable internationally in the nineteenth century as a spa town. It may just be this longevity as a centre for tourism which has led it to understand, and hold on to, the charm and authenticity which made it so popular in the first place.

The Ranilla District is very much at the heart of this act of conservation, having been declared a Centre of Historic and Cultural Interest back in 1985.

Formerly the town’s fishing district and home to many of its fishermen, it has, in recent years, become the town’s culinary heart with over 300 restaurants with their terraces spilling out on to its pedestrianised streets. The district has never forgotten its connection with the island’s fishing heritage though and today celebrates it with a fantastic range of seafood served nightly in its bustling restaurants.

Los Cristianos

Deep Relaxation in Los Cristianos

If you’re chasing a week of winter sun, or looking for somewhere warm to spend a little longer, Los Cristianos, on the south coast of Tenerife, is one of the most popular resorts in the Canary Islands – and for very good reason. This delightful former fishing village has it all: safe beaches, fishing and pleasure cruises, day excursions to encounter the wildlife or explore neighbouring islands, and some superb restaurants to sample the delicious Spanish cuisine.

But sometimes, even when you’re on holiday, you need that little bit of extra pampering to make you feel totally relaxed. The resort has a number of excellent spa, beauty and wellness facilities that offer everything from luxuriant skin treatments to remedial deep tissue massage – and quite a lot in between.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Party the Night Away at the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival

It may be hard to imagine but right now, as you sit reading this blog, one of the world’s biggest parties is in full swing on the sunny streets of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

As you read this, Carnival Queens are appearing in sequins and exotic plumage, dancers are parading through the streets accompanied by Latin and Samba beats and crowds (many in fancy dress) are partying in the city’s many squares. Makes you wonder why you’re still sitting there reading instead of booking the next flight over to Tenerife, doesn’t it?

Spain is a country famous for knowing how to throw a good party, with similar Lent festivals held in Cadiz and Puerto de la Cruz, but the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival is the country’s very best and biggest fiesta. In fact, it is second only to Rio de Janeiro in the stakes for best carnival of the world.

Playa de las Américas

Cheap Winter Sun for the Lads – Playa de las Américas

Looking to escape the doom and gloom for a fun-filled, action-packed winter sun holiday? Playa de las Américas should be the top of your list, as this is a brilliant party destination on the Canary Island of Tenerife. The sun blasts down during the day when you can enjoy plenty of thrilling activities or chill out on the beach, before hitting the town for a wild night at one of the many pubs, bars and clubs where the drinks flow and the prices are low.
