Plan the Ultimate Hen Weekend in Cala d’Or

With well-priced luxury accommodation and lots of cheap flights, a ‘destination’ hen weekend in Spain is becoming a popular alternative – and the promise of sun, sea, and sand doesn’t hurt either!

Cala d’Or, in Majorca, shapes up as a pretty fabulous option for the ultimate girls’ weekend getaway. With pampering, nightlife, and shopping priorities for a hen party itinerary, this lovely Balearic resort has plenty to please even the most discerning Bridezilla!

Dance the Night Away

The Time Out Party Cafe is exactly what it says on the tin – a party café! This lively bar and music venue is just the kind of place to kick a hens’ night off, and is situated smack bang in the middle of Cala d’Or. Popular with both tourists and locals, the venue has skilled cocktail bar staff (try the famous Gin Bramble), fantastic music, and a highly energised atmosphere, to say the least!

Located at Carrer Santanyi, the venue is open until 1am seven days a week. Bookings are recommended for group tables, as the place gets very busy.

Not as over-the-top as the Time Out, but just as much fun, the Upstairs Bar is a great place to finish up a hens’ night in Cala d’Or. It’s got a reputation as one of the best bars in town, with an extensive cocktail list, friendly staff and a super cool, laidback ambience. Reserve a table (essential for groups) on the terrace overlooking the main restaurant strip of Cala d’Or and work your way through the menu of colourful, highly-embellished cocktails or sangria, then head inside for some dancing to the sounds of the resident DJ.

The Upstairs Bar is located at Carrer de Antoni Costa 8, and is open until around 1am.

Perfect Pampering

Do your research and choose a resort or hotel with an onsite spa so the girls won’t have to go too far for a luxurious pampering session of massages, facials, beauty treatments, saunas, and wellness therapies. Some even have in-room services! Consider the ones we’ve mentioned below, which all have particularly good spa facilities.

But if you’re up for something a little left-of-centre for your hens’ weekend, book in for a unique pedicure at the Fish Spa and Wellness. In the relaxing surrounds of the spa you’ll sit with your feet dangling into an aquarium – filled with hundreds of Garra Rufa fish! While it’s not for everyone (especially if you’re particularly ticklish), the Asian-inspired fish pedicure is renowned for its results, with the tiny carp nibbling off the dry and calloused skin on your feet, leaving them clean, smooth and tingly.

Fish Spa and Wellness is located at Calle de Boulevard d’Or 23, and a pedicure will cost around €10 for 10 minutes. There’s also a two-person special of 30 minutes for €32 with a glass of bubbles included – so you’ll be tingly inside and out!

Shopping

Girls love to shop, right? And when you get a group of girls together there’s usually no stopping them! There is no shortage of places to get your fix of retail therapy in Cala d’Or, whether it’s for souvenirs, fashion, arts and crafts, handbags, or food. The main street is filled with shops and boutiques offering an eclectic range of goods, including some high fashion, with much loved chains like Mango making an appearance.

If you want to make a beeline straight for Mango, it’s at Avinguda Tagomago, 7.

Cala d’Or – Perfect for Girls!

With its host of gorgeous, accessible beaches and plenty of activities on tap, including tennis, cycling, hiking, diving, snorkelling, boat charters and much more, Cala d’Or makes the ideal destination for a weekend (or week-long!) hen party getaway with all the girly trimmings.

How to Get to Cala d’Or

Situated in the south east of Majorca, Cala d’Or is just 45 minutes from Palma Mallorca Airport, so it’s an ideal short break destination. The airport is serviced by a host of budget airlines, including easyJet, Ryanair and BA, meaning that if even if your group lives in different parts of the UK they won’t have any trouble organising a cheap flight.

Once you land, while there is the option of a bus, the public transport is not entirely reliable on the island. The easiest and most convenient way to get to Cala d’Or is by pre-booking a private Mallorca airport taxi with Shuttle Direct, to get your entire group of lovely ladies (and your luggage) to and from the airport in style!

If anyone in the group has flown into mainland Spain (or made a road trip from the UK) there are a number of ferry options to Majorca – leaving from Valencia, Barcelona and Benidorm – to Alcúdia in the north, or Palma in the south of the island (the better option for Cala d’Or).
