Magaluf: Megafun in the Balearic Sun

Fancy a big night out in one of Europe’s hottest party destinations? If the answer is yes, then a trip to Magaluf could be for you—and long overdue! This resort town, located on the southwest coast of Mallorca, has the reputation of being the party capital of Spain, and with good reason—it’s home to some of the best beach clubs in the Balearic Islands and attracts more than a million holidaymakers each year. Lounge on Playa de Magaluf by day, treating yourself to a refreshing tipple at an über-cool rooftop bar, and by night, hit the dance floor in one of the town’s liveliest nightclubs (think foam, paint, and UV light).

From topping up your tan to dancing until dawn, the fun never stops in this party-goer’s paradise.

Here are my top picks for a week of fun and sun in Magaluf.

Nightlife and Neon Lights

Without question, it’s the vibrant party scene that puts Magaluf on the map. For a taste of the action, head to Punta Ballena, the bustling, neon-lit strip running from Palma Nova in the north down to Playa de Magaluf in the south. As the epicentre of Magaluf’s nightlife, Punta Ballena is lined with trendy bars and clubs providing good vibes and great music you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else. As the sun dips, go big or go home at BCM Mallorca. This is the largest superclub in Magaluf and one of the biggest nightclubs in Europe, known for its night raves hosted by headlining acts like Stormzy and Snoop Dogg. Internationally renowned DJs from Calvin Harris to Steve Aoki have also spun their tracks here, so you can bet your bottom dollar you’ll be boogieing the night away to your favourite summer bangers in a world-class club.

For the fun factor, check out Carwash Nightclub, home to Magaluf’s famous foam parties held every Thursday and Sunday from June to the end of August. Every summer since 1998, clubbers have flocked to Carwash Nightclub for the unique experience of partying while getting drenched by a foam machine. The energy is simply electric, with strobe lights flashing and the DJ mixing chart-topping tracks as you cut shapes on Europe’s only ‘wet’ dance floor. The atmosphere is unparalleled, and a good soaking in a sea of bubbles will undoubtedly take the experience to a whole new level. Make it a night to remember by immersing yourself in the foam-filled spectacle and enjoy the novelty of clubbing with a twist. Get ready to party in style at Carwash Nightclub!

Schmooze on a Booze Cruise

Picture this: the sun’s out, the music’s pumping, and the drinks are flowing. Now imagine you’re on board a catamaran surrounded by your mates and dancing to a live DJ set while sailing along Mallorca’s coastline. Sound like it’d be right up your street? If so, consider booking a booze cruise while in Magaluf and get ready for a fun-filled fiesta at sea. Drinks will be on tap and you can help yourself to the complimentary nibbles at the snack bar. Being a party animal takes its toll, so at some point, you’ll stop off in the harbour and drop anchor, giving you the chance to blow off some steam, go for a swim, and take a breather away from the madness! You’ll likely find a photographer on board who’ll be capturing all the magic moments on camera so that you can save the memories as you’re making memories. What are you waiting for? Book a booze cruise and make your Magaluf trip an unforgettable one!

Make a Splash at Western Water Park

This Wild West-themed waterpark is an unmissable attraction for the adrenaline junkies of the group. The park is divided into three sections: Western Land, Indian Town, and El Paso. For the thrill seekers, check out The Beast, the eleventh longest slide in the world, which features a near-vertical drop of over 30 metres. Only the bravest will dare to take on this heart-stopping sensation! If you have a need for speed, you’ll want to try out El Látigo (The Whip), Boomerang, and Tornado, which are the fastest rides in the park. After you’ve conquered the waterslides and had your dose of rip-roaring rides, head to Tam Tam Splash, a wave pool that gives you the chance to unwind after a day of high-octane activities.

All that zipping down waterslides is bound to work up an appetite, so you’ll be pleased to know that there are several eateries and kiosks on site, including a pizzeria and an ice cream parlour. There’s also a designated picnic area if you’d prefer to bring your own lunch. Ticket prices at the Western Waterpark range according to age, but for adults (aged 11+) a standard ticket costs €35 at the box office and €33 if you book online. Discount packages are also available, such as the Friends Pack (for up to four adults), which is offered at a rate of €123. In July and August, Western Water Park is open from 10 am to 5 pm, so it’s worth getting there nice and early to avoid the crowds and make the most of your day.

Ready, Set, Go-karting!

Rev up your engines and get ready for the ride of your life with go-karting in Magaluf! Few things are more exhilarating than whizzing around a track with hairpin bends and long straights, feeling the wind blowing through your hair as you race at full speed, and, of course, competing with your friends for the fastest lap time. Go-karting is an ideal activity for daredevils because you don’t need any experience to join in on the fun; novice or experienced racer, everybody’s welcome. Do you think you’ve got what it takes to be crowned king or queen of the karts? If so, go-karting could be for you. It’s your chance to get behind the wheel and go head-to-head with your friends, with the winner receiving ultimate bragging rights!

Many go-karting companies offer prizes for clinching victory, so to get top spot on the podium you’d better bring your A-game! You’ll be kitted out in helmets and given a full safety briefing before you hit the tracks so that you can have fun in a safe environment. Go-karting is available both indoors and outdoors and will see you reach speeds of up to 40mph—now that’s burning some serious rubber! Challenges vary from track to track, but you could be racing against friends, seeing who can complete the most laps in a set time, or trying to achieve the fastest lap. To up the ante, you could even dish out some cheeky forfeits to the losers and make them buy the first round of drinks at the pub! Go-karting is the perfect way to get the adrenaline pumping and create everlasting memories with your friends. (Tip: Make sure to wear rubber-soled shoes so that you’re comfortable when you’re at the wheel.)

‘Seas’ the Day at Playa de Magaluf

Although you’ll probably see more of the night than the day while you’re in Magaluf, no summer holiday is complete without a trip to the beach. The real gravitational pull of the resort is Playa de Magaluf, a magnificent kilometre-long stretch of fine, white sand that’s so clean it’s been awarded a Blue Flag. The beach has numerous amenities for your leisure and comfort, including deck chairs, umbrellas, toilets, and showers. There are also lifeguards on duty, ensuring everybody’s safety.

Magaluf

Once you’ve had your fair share of lounging on the beach, there are various water sports you can get stuck into, such as jet-skiing and parasailing. Or, if you’d prefer to stay on land, why not challenge your friends to a game of volleyball? There’s nothing wrong with a bit of healthy competition!

The beach is just over 30 km away from Palma de Mallorca Airport and runs parallel to Punta Ballena. It’s also bordered by a promenade lined by bars and restaurants, so you’re never far from a refreshing drink or a tasty bite to eat.
