How to Spend 24 Hours in Perfect Paleokastritsa

Is there any better way to spend a holiday than chilling for a week on a Greek island? I don’t think so, and if I had to choose one island, I would have to recommend Corfu as my favourite. While each Greek island has something different to offer, Corfu has plenty of variety, from incredible beaches to relax on, to a host of adrenaline-filled activities – plus the food is incredible! Spending a week here offers the perfect chance to strike the balance between unwinding and exploring with a few day trips.

24 Hours in Perfect Paleokastritsa

Whether you’re exploring Greece on a cruise or are doing a self-drive tour, one place you must include on your itinerary is the pretty little town of Paleokastritsa. It’s a bit of a honey-pot for travellers, but once you arrive you’ll see why. Boasting breathtaking coastal scenery, attractive winding streets, and a host of charming tavernas, it’s one of the best ways to spend 24 hours during your Greek getaway.

Paleokastritsa

Take a beach day

Paleokastritsa has earned a reputation as one of the best beach resorts in Corfu, so if you’re a beach bum at heart, then you won’t be disappointed. Spend the day on a beach crawl and discover some of the most beautiful stretches of coastline on the island.

Liapades – This small stretch of sand is much quieter than some other beaches, but that’s why it’s my favourite. It’s a little out of the main town, but it’s worth the extra journey for the idyllic scenery.

Agios Spiridonas – This is the main beach of Paleokastritsa and will be a good base to explore. Here you can rent small boats, try snorkelling, and sunbathe to your heart’s content. There’s always a nice busy atmosphere here.

Paradise – If you want to try something totally different, you must visit this beach. It’s unique and something of a hidden gem, as you can only reach it by boat – but the extra expense is worth it for the incredible cliff views.

Explore the coastline

Speaking of unforgettable experiences, another fun day activity is to rent a boat and go looking for hidden coves and caves along the coast. You can take the boat out by yourself, so it’s a great opportunity to make some memories and entertain the family, as well.

Try a water activity

There are lots of safe places to try snorkelling or diving in the gorgeous, crystal-clear blue water. You’ll spot all kinds of colourful fish and other marine life, and it’s a great way to cool off in the middle of the day.

Unwind at the local beach bars

After exploring, why not refresh yourself with a cool drink at one of the many local beach bars? Paleokastritsa doesn’t have a hectic nightlife but it still offers a wonderful atmosphere that feels welcoming and fun.

Take a hike

If you want a break from relaxing, you can head out to explore on foot on one of the various hiking trails. The town itself is hilly, so breaking a bit of a sweat is unavoidable, but there are also lots of sights to see – so it’s well worth it. One of the best views is found at the top of Cape Drastis, which is also a very pretty walk.

Where to Stay:

Ionian Sun – Private accommodation with all the holiday essentials, including an outdoor swimming pool, garden, terrace and great sea views. Free parking and WiFi is also on offer.

Akrotiri Beach Resort Hotel – This 4-star hotel overlooks the Agia Triada Beach and offers stylish, air-conditioned rooms with all the best amenities. Guests can also enjoy meals at the sea-view restaurant.

Eleni’s Guesthouse – This charming guesthouse has its own restaurant, garden, terrace and BBQ area. Guests have access to a communal kitchen as well, for nights when you feel like a bit of home cooking.

How to Get There:

Ryanair offers frequent flights to Corfu, with both direct and stop-over flights. You’ll find reasonable prices during June and July, but August will be a bit more expensive at around £127 for a round trip.

I always recommend travellers pre-book a Corfu airport transfer to make the journey from Corfu airport to Paleokastritsa completely hassle-free. A Paleokastritsa transfer will add that extra element of ease to your holiday, which means that it will kick off to the very best start. An airport transfer will take about 35 minutes, but with the expertise of an experienced local driver it is a smooth journey, meaning that you can just sit back and relax.
