Think of Venice and you don’t necessarily think of going to the beach, but Lido di Jesolo, the purpose-built beach resort on the Adriatic Coast is a haven for lovers of sun, sand and the seaside. It makes a great excursion from Venice and is a nice change to a day’s sightseeing in the city.
Introducing Lido di Jesolo
Originally a small town located near the northern end of the lagoon that makes up a huge part of the Veneto region, Jesolo is ideally located close to a pretty sandy seashore. When, in the early twentieth century, beach holidays became all the rage, Jesolo’s resources were there for the taking. Nowadays it is the Lido di Jesolo, the new town that grew along the sandy coast itself that attracts the visitors rather than the old town of Jesolo, which lies a few miles from the seaside.
Today Lido di Jesolo is concentrated on tourism and is very resort orientated. There are excellent services here and the shops, cafés and restaurants are all laid out for the convenience of visitors. Some may say that the atmosphere here is a little surreal and rather unlike other Italian towns but the resort is safe, organised and very clean. Lifeguards and first-aid points are easily accessible and there are plenty of car parks and access roads. The main street buzzes with shops selling all manner of beach attire and equipment and there are several lively cafes, ice cream shops and bars too.
During the evening the streets are pedestrianised, making this a very pleasant place for visitors to wander, eat, drink and shop late into the night. Because of its relative infancy in terms of an Italian town, there is little historic culture here but the town does make a great effort to organise events and attractions throughout the year.
Lido di Jesolo is a lovely place to visit if you want a break from Venice and kids especially will love the chance to swim, play and enjoy the seaside and aquariums.

How to Get to Lido di Jesolo
Venice has two airports and two main train stations and so is very accessible regardless of how you are travelling. You can also fly into Verona, which is only 130km away.
