Get Out on the Water in Lloret de Mar

Lloret de Mar, on Spain’s Costa Brava, is a renowned tourist destination, popular with budget conscious holidaymakers searching for a taste of Mediterranean sun and fun. This former sleepy fishing village has transformed into a Mecca for sunbathing, shopping, golf and, of course, a host of exciting water sports.

Snorkelling and Scuba Diving

The clear, warm waters of the Costa Brava are renowned for their abundance of sea life and unique marine flora. For those who want to get beneath the surface and discover this amazing underwater world, there are plenty of opportunities to do so in Lloret de Mar. If you’re an experienced diver there are some more challenging dives to complete, including the most popular with professional divers, Mulera. If you’re just starting out or don’t have very much experience, more easily accessible sites like Fito will suit. There are several good diving schools and a number of diving companies organising day trips out to the various sites. For those who want to stay closer to shore, snorkelling around the rocks at any of the local beaches is very rewarding.

Sea Kayaking

A gentle, meditative paddle in a sea kayak around the rocky coves and inlets of Lloret de Mar is one of the most pleasurable ways to explore the coastline. You’ll be able to enjoy the landscape from a very different vantage, and you’ll also encounter an abundance of local birdlife and marine life along the way.

Sailing

Hiring a small yacht from the Canyelles Marina or Lloret Beach itself will get you out on the water under the power of the wind. It’s great fun to chase the breeze in these surprisingly fast vessels, joining the multitude of other leisure sailors trying their hand at this energetic sport. If you’re serious about sailing, you can charter a bareboat or luxury crewed yacht and head further afield into the Mediterranean.

Jet Ski

For some fast and furious fun, Lloret de Mar is one of the best places to get out and about on a powerful jet ski. There is an official ‘circuit’ around the main beach, but, if you’re more experienced, it’s also possible to leave the immediate region and head out around the coastline to do a little exploring.

Getting out and enjoying Lloret de Mar’s myriad water based activities will be a major part of any holiday itinerary to the Costa Brava. The ones mentioned above are just the start…
