Whether on the TV or during your last ski holiday, if you’re into winter sports you’ve likely watched freestylers spinning, grabbing and flipping and thought: “I’d like to try that too”. However, you may have been understandably reticent to start tricking on the slopes, wondering instead whether there might be a place dedicated to those who’d like to take their first steps in freestyle skiing and snowboarding. Fortunately, Sestriere has just such a place.
Flips and Spins in Sestriere
Sestriere’s snow park is around 250 metres long, and is full of jumps, jibs and rails. Freestyle skiers and snowboarders will find everything they need to pull off whatever flips, spins, grabs and grinds they can, making it a great place for even non-freestylers to take a moment to stand and watch. As one of the best snow parks in the region, Sestriere attracts plenty of experienced freestylers, all of them with a range of tricks to impress even the most cynical viewer.
Beginners may, quite naturally, feel intimidated to ski straight into a popular snow park and start trying their hand at freestyle skiing or snowboarding. Fortunately, Sestriere’s snow park has a section designed entirely for beginners, aiming to provide an easy, nurturing environment for newbie freestylers to try their hand at this kind of skiing or snowboarding without the intimidation and technical difficulty of the more advanced areas.
So if you’ve ever gazed longingly at freestylers pulling off seemingly impossible tricks, you might want to think about taking a trip to Sestriere and spending a little time at this wonderful snow park.
How to Get to Sestriere
You can reach Sestriere via Turin airport transfers or a rental car, but we find that after a long day’s travelling with plenty of luggage, the last thing you’ll want to do is drive yourself. It takes an hour and a half over the A32/E70, and you’ll need to pay a toll along the way.
It’s also connected via public transport, although the journey time is a little longer at three hours. After landing, walk to Caselle Aeroporto, then take the SMFA30 train towards Torina Dora GTT. Get off at Torina Dora GTT, walk to Fermata 3016 – Dora GTT, and take the number 11 bus towards Stati Uniti Cap. Get off at Fermata 252 Porta Nuova, walk to Torino Porta Nuova and take the SFM3 train towards Bardonecchia, getting off at Oulx, from where you can get a taxi to Sestriere.
