It may not immediately jump to mind: however there are a number of amorous attractions – and you can get a lovely overview of them on your transfer from Málaga Airport to Nerja.

Read on to find out the perfect place to renew your wedding vows, fall in love amidst romantic scenery and architecture and hold hands as you watch the sun set over the Alboran Sea.

Botanical Gardens

As you begin your trip from Málaga Airport to Nerja, the first attraction to watch out for is La Concepción Jardín Botánico-Historico de Málaga. This is a poignant spot for couples to visit with its uniquely romantic roots.

Originally several small estates, bought by the Marquis Jorge Oyarzabal and Marchioness Amalia Livermore in the mid-nineteenth century, they were consolidated into a gorgeous garden that became known for its collection of archaeological remains. The pair came up with this idea while visiting parks, villas, palaces and botanical gardens on their European honeymoon some years earlier. In 1911, another couple, Rafael Echevarria and Amalia Echevarrieta, bought and expanded it further.

La Concepción has since been declared a Place of Cultural Interest and a Garden of Historical and Artistic Interest. It is made up of the Historical Garden, named so because the original design has been well-preserved, and the Botanical Garden, which surrounds the former and has plants arranged in scientific order.

The gardens also come with other charming additions that lovebirds may enjoying visiting. Apart from lush and diverse flora, there’s everything from the Marquis and Marchioness’s holiday home to the Nymph’s pond to the Oriental pavilion.

Return to La Concepción Jardín Botánico-Historico de Málaga with your sweetheart for a romantic stroll through gorgeous greenery.

Recommended Visit Time: At least half a day, although it wouldn’t be difficult to spend longer here (especially if you get lost in your lover’s eyes).

Monte Miramar Palace

Next to keep an eye out for as you journey from Málaga Airport to Nerja is Palacio Monte Miramar, especially if you and your sweetie are looking to celebrate. Whether you’re engaged and looking for a wedding venue, commemorating your golden anniversary, wanting to make your proposal extra special or just have the desire to shout out that you’re in love, this splendid palace is the perfect place to host an event so romantic Aphrodite would be jealous.

The area is equipped with all the amenities you need to generate memories you’ll never forget. There are a variety of magical spaces to hold your celebration, including the Gardens, the Mirror Lounge, the Glass Lounge and the Library Room. And when it comes to catering, there’s no better choice. Their gastronomy ranges from set meals to personalised menus – everything you need to make your event as special and unique as your relationship.

If you’re searching for somewhere that looks as though it’s just out of a fairytale to express your love for your significant other, you’ll fall head over heels for Palacio Monte Miramar.

Recommended Visit Time: It depends on what event you’re planning, so it could range from a few hours to the entire day.

Balcony of Europe

As you near your destination on your drive from Málaga Airport to Nerja, be on the lookout for the following lookout: Balcón de Europa. This is an incredibly romantic destination to return to with your significant other, as it offers breathtaking panoramic views of the entirety of the Nerja coast.

Although today it is a great spot for lovers, it also has a lot of fascinating history behind it. Because of its location atop a rocky cliff, it was originally a fortress designed to keep out British pirates and privateers. To the right are multiple beaches, the best (and sandiest) being La Caletilla and El Salon. Head down to either to relax under the hot Spanish sun or take a walk along the shore

Top Tip: Watch the sun rise or set over the Alboran Sea here.

Recommended Visit Time: An hour or so, although if you decide to hit the beach you could be in the area for much longer.
