Exploring Magnificent Mallorca: Palma Mallorca to Magaluf

Are you travelling from Palma Mallorca to Magaluf with Shuttle Direct’s services? Lucky you. Although this ride usually less than 30 minutes (with public transportation it can take more than 90 minutes, by the way), there are more stunning spots than you can count along the way.

To find out more about them, you could always ask our knowledgeable and local drivers. Here’s a list of some of those picturesque places that you can ask your driver about. Perhaps you’ll even feel inspired to visit one of them during your sunny getaway.

1. Portixol

A short distance from Palma and Palma Mallorca Airport, you’ll stumble across Portixol, a former fishing town. Today, the village is one of the most sought-after areas to live, thanks to its luxuriously renovated fishing cottages. On a warm day (and let’s be real: when isn’t it warm in Mallorca?), there’s nothing better than strolling through Portixol’s narrow streets, which is like taking a trip back in time.

After having a lavish lunch at one of the town’s restaurants, many of which serve fresh and local seafood specialties, you’ll love spending a few hours soaking up the sun at Portixol’s beach. This stretch of sand is cleaner and more secluded than its neighbouring beaches, such as the popular Playa de Palma. What’s more, there are plenty of shady spots, which are perfect for dozing and protecting yourself from sun burns. Ask your driver all about this beach oasis on your route from Palma Mallorca to Magaluf.

2. Palma

On your journey, you’ll pass through Palma, the island’s capital. Although there are myriad cultural and natural highlights to keep you entertained for hours, we recommend that you start with the big sights, such as Catedral de Mallorca. Erected by the Crown of Aragon in the thirteenth century, this Gothic cathedral’s spectacular stained glass windows and breathtaking view of the Mediterranean Sea have earned its world renown, attracting thousands of tourists each year.

In addition to its charming cathedral, Palma boasts its own castle: Castell de Bellver. This fourteenth-century fortress is surrounded by a tranquil pine forest and offers jaw-dropping views of Palma Bay. What’s more, it’s possible to explore the interior of the castle, which contains a fascinating museum. You’ll learn everything about the castle’s extensive and truly fascinating history – for starters, did know that it served as a prison for several centuries?

If you’re interested in learning more about the island’s sea life, look no further than Palma Aquarium. This center has numerous aquatic surprises in store for you, and can be explored in a variety of adventurous ways. For example, you can hop onto a boat and see the aquarium’s sharks up close – this is particularly fun if you’re travelling with curious children.

3. Cas Català

About halfway through your ride from Palma Mallorca to Magaluf, you’ll pass Cas Català. This coastal town is particularly special, as it has several secluded coves – which perfectly lend themselves to natural excursions… and sunbathing, of course. From the waterside, you’ll also be able to spot three beautiful islets, called Sa Caleta, S’Estenedor and Sa Torre. To fully immerse yourself in the area’s natural wonders, simply take a leisurely stroll along the coastline.

If you’re a fan of cultural excursions, Cas Català promises not to disappoint: it’s home to a military fort from the nineteenth century, as well as a watchtower that is well worth exploring – you’re bound to learn something new about the island’s longstanding history.

4. Costa d’en Blanes

A mere 10 minutes away from Magaluf, you’ll pass Costa d’en Blanes, a quiet coastal town named after the Blanes, a wealthy family who used to own vast amounts of land in Mallorca. Today, it’s fun to stroll by the area’s 450 elegant villas and dream about owning one of them. And, even better: the district’s marina, golf course, and beaches are bustling with life – why not join the other locals and tourists for an afternoon of luxury?

5. Palma Nova

The trip from Palma Mallorca to Magaluf is almost over, but the best is yet to come. One of our all-time favourite spots on Mallorca is Palma Nova, a vibrant beach town. Palma Nova is not as busy as the adjacent Magaluf, making it a perfect getaway if the hubbub in your holiday destination becomes overwhelming.

The shallow and very temperate waters of the town’s 3 beaches are ideal for swimming. Playa Palma Nova – one of these – was even awarded a Blue Flag, thanks to its pristine water and sand quality. From your holiday destination, all beaches are easily reachable on foot, as the promenade spans all the way from Magaluf to Palma Nova. It’s quick and easy!

If you’re a golf enthusiast, hitting Palma Nova’s courses is an absolute must. Golf Fantasia has no fewer than three, but don’t be fooled: these are not regular courses! Instead of perfecting your putt near a forest or pond, you’ll pass waterfalls and caves as you enjoy a few games. Golf with a tropical twist: what could be better?
