Explore Titreyengöl: Action, Adventure and Ancient Ruins

The secluded area of Titreyengöl is located in Turkey, between the two bustling towns of Side and Manavgat. There are plenty of activities available in each of these areas, but I have chosen a few of the best that will specifically appeal to families looking for that unforgettable adventure holiday.

Top Tip: History buffs will love discovering the mythology in Kemer, Turkey.

Spectacular Side

This family-friendly resort has so much to offer for all types of holidaymaker; nature enthusiasts, thrill seekers and culture lovers will all adore this town. Its diversity and natural beauty are the main highlights, but if you’re looking for specific attractions to add to your itinerary, here are a few you should definitely consider.

Köprülü Canyon

Köprülü Canyon National Park is a stunning location, and as absolute must-see if you’re visiting Side. Hike up the mountains to enjoy the breath-taking views – the verdant landscape is split down the middle with the strikingly-blue Köprülü River, and the rocks act as beautiful rustic accents of the scenery.

The clear waters will certainly look inviting, so why not try your hand at white-water rafting? An ideal family day trip, this adventure will allow you to appreciate the beauty of the canyon while enjoying the thrill of the choppy waters. It’s likely you’ll get a little wet, so be sure to take a change of clothes!

Side Museum

If your family enjoys acquiring historical knowledge, the Side Museum is the place to go. Although small, this museum provides visitors with a wealth of information about Turkey’s past, displaying artefacts from the Hellenistic and Roman periods.

The museum itself is actually the town’s fifth-century bathhouse, so it is worth visiting just to admire the exterior.

Temples of Apollo and Athena

These remains are some of Side’s numerous historical marvels, but are truly magnificent due to their location. Situated right by the harbour, these huge columns have a dominating and atmospheric presence.

From the sixth to the seventh centuries, Greek and Roman settlers established themselves in Turkey, slowly developing the prosperous town we still see today. If your children are history lovers, they’ll be in their element admiring the ruins and imagining what the temples must have looked like all those centuries ago.

Marvellous Manavgat

Manavgat is a picturesque town full of immense natural beauty and bustling with activity. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a few days with the family exploring the landscape and discovering some of that fantastic things there are to do.

Manavgat River and Waterfall

The most famous attraction in the area, Manavgat’s picturesque river and waterfall can take anyone’s breath away. Embark on a boat tour around the river in order to fully appreciate its beauty (some tours also offer lunches included in the price). If you or the children are feeling daring, you can plunge into the icy waters to cool down.

Alternatively, grab a bite at one of the seafood restaurants located at the waterfall site. Travellers also enjoy taking homemade picnics and setting up camp near the waterfall to listen to its roaring sounds as they eat. Once you have seen this majestic waterfall it is truly unforgettable, yet you will find yourself wanting to return again and again.

Oymapinar Dam

This incredible piece of architecture boasts some unique design features and attracts many tourists due to its scenic location. The strength of the dam is rather astonishing considering the force of the water, and it’s interesting to observe how the structure has been built to maintain its sturdiness – this could make a great physics lesson for the youngsters!

The Market

If you and the children are feeling tired out, I recommend visiting the local markets for a laid-back culture experience. Lively, colourful and unmistakably Turkish, the Manavgat markets are a fantastic way to immerse yourself in local life and enjoy some authentic delicacies. Sample some fresh meat and fish from the butchers and fishmongers, the colourful fruit and vegetables or the local cheeses – the distinct tastes will have you feeling completely immersed in your holiday experience.

Where to Stay

Otium Eco Club – This is a great option for families as it is just a short walk from a fabulous blue flag beach and just a few miles from Side. Plus, it has its own water park which is ideal for young children and adolescents alike. Otium Eco Club also offer animal feeding experiences and creativity classes; children will love getting in touch with nature and exploring their artsy side.

Ali Bey Club Manavgat – Situated in fantastic location and boasting a beautifully furnished interior, this hotel is a holiday paradise. Enjoy the delicious Mediterranean cuisine as you watch some of the onsite music and dance performances. For the children, there are several clubs and a large aqua park which will provide moments that will make the trip feel truly magical.

How to Get There

If you are travelling from the UK, it is best to fly to Antalya Airport. Six airlines fly direct and there are usually around 30 flights each week. This should give you ample leeway regarding times and prices.

From there, a pre-booked airport transfer to Titreyengöl is the quickest and easiest way to travel to your chosen accommodation. I would recommend using Shuttle Direct’s services, as they are extremely cooperative and friendly towards their customers. They also provide helpful family extras such as car seats, so be sure to make any specific requests when you book online. The transfer to your accommodation should take just one hour.
