Diving & Snorkelling around Magaluf

Magaluf is located on the island paradise of Mallorca. With its clear waters and sheltered bays, Mallorca offers some rare opportunities for the diver or snorkeller, whether green or seasoned. Today, we round up some of our favourite opportunities.

Snorkelling

Snorkelling is a great way to decide whether diving is for you, and due to the low cost of the equipment, as well as lack of expertise needed to use it, it’s as accessible to new snorkellers as it is to veterans.

To start with, we’d recommend going to the south coast of the island. There is a particular part of the coast line, bound by the beaches Cala Blava and Cala Pi. Here you’ll find a great many rocky bays, all of them full of marine life, and with the flora and fauna shallow enough to see from the surface. If you’d prefer to stay close to Magaluf, a similarly thriving snorkelling spot can be found at Puerto Vells: any of the area’s three bays is unlikely to disappoint.

The more adventurous snorkeller could take the ferry from El Telmo to Dragonera: this uninhabited island has plenty of snorkelling, although it’s worth the visit just to explore it on foot.

SCUBA

For those interested in diving, we’d recommend contacting Big Blue Diving. This school will take you on trips to see sunken ships, underwater nature reserves and to explore caves. Additionally, you’ll have access to expert guidance and instruction, so new divers can start to get a handle on the technique and the equipment.

How to get to Magaluf

If you’re flying from London airports, direct flights by Ryanair, easyJet, British Airways, Iberia and Monarch can take you to Palma Mallorca airport in about 2 hours and 20 minutes.

Once you’ve landed, a Mallorca airport taxi will have you in Magaluf in around 25 minutes. If you want to drive yourself, take the Ma-20 and Ma-1 in the direction of Magaluf.

Public transport links between Palma Mallorca Airport and Magaluf are also available, but mind that your journey will take almost an hour longer this way. If you’re taking up the challenge of getting your group and your luggage to Magaluf by public transport anyways, take bus 1 from Palma de Mallorca Airport to “Comte de Sallent”, then change to bus 105 direction “El Toro”. The journey will take you around 1 hour and 15 minutes.
