Adventures With the Family in Amazing Albir

Albir is a fantastic destination for young families. Situated between Altea and Benidorm on Spain’s northern Costa Blanca, the area is home to plenty of attractions and exciting activities to keep the whole family entertained throughout your entire holiday. From beaches to water parks, the kids will be delighted with a getaway here and, with its great food, charming hotels and welcoming atmosphere, it’s not difficult to see why the area has become so popular with families.

Read on to see why I consider this slice of Spanish heaven a top pick for parents and children alike.

Beaches

The Mediterranean climate is at its best in Albir, where there are a staggering 300 days of sunshine every single year. The winters are relatively mild and there is little to no rain in the area throughout the year, so you can rely on the weather to be good.

The area’s primary beach, Playa de Racó de l’Albir, offers staggering views and is a great place to start your family holiday. As with every Costa Blanca holiday resort, there are lifeguards on duty every day during the season, so you can rest assured that the group’s safety is taken care of.

Highlights of Playa de Racó de l’Albir

  • Blue flag status
  • Two children’s play areas
  • Breathtaking views of Penon de Ifach, Calpe

Aqualandia

Home to a whole host of exciting attractions, Aqualandia is Albir’s premier water park. From the wave pool to ‘Big Bang’ and ‘Great Jacuzzi Iguazu’, the kids will love a day out here. The rides and attractions are divided up into different categories based on height, so it’s clear which rides are suitable for your children to enjoy.

The ‘Family Attractions’ are suitable for all ages and include ‘Adventureland’ and ‘Niagara’, whilst the ‘Radical Attractions’ include ‘Vertigo’ and ‘Big Bang’ and are just for the adults.

Top Tip: Plan your trip in advance by looking at the park’s map and list of attractions. This is the best way to get the most out of your day.

Terra Natura

Terra Natura is a wildlife park located just outside of Benidorm, and is one of the most popular activities in the region for young families. With over 1,500 animals calling the park home, there’s no shortage of interesting flora and fauna for you and the kids to explore.

International Wildlife

This wonderful attraction is split into four sections based on where the animals originate from – Asia, the Americas, Pangea and Europe. Head into each one of these sections and you’ll discover all kinds of interesting creatures. From elephants to llamas and parrots to sharks, you won’t get bored quickly.

Food & Drink

Make sure you sample some of Terra Natura’s delightful cuisine before you leave the park. With hundreds of unique food stalls, there’ll be something to suit all kinds of different appetites and tastes!

Top Tip: Bring along your swimming costumes so you can spend some time at Aqua Natura, the area’s enormous water park that features bridges, castles and slides.

Where to Stay

Kaktus Albir – Situated right by the beach is Kaktus Albir. It boasts an indoor and outdoor pool as well as a fitness centre. Air conditioned rooms with a balcony are available, and the hotel’s hot tub is also very popular, as is the games room (it comes complete with a pool table).

Hotel Rober Palas – At Hotel Rober Palas, you’ll enjoy a spot of tranquillity. It’s still close to the beach, but also offers a peaceful atmosphere away from busy areas. Your private bathroom will include a bath and shower, and you’ll find all manner of shops, restaurants and cafes just a five-minute walk away.

How to Get There

The best way to reach Albir is to take a flight into Alicante Airport (ALC), and from there take a private transfer with Shuttle Direct to your accommodation. I would recommend booking this well in advance of your journey, as this will give you the peace of mind that comes with knowing that all of your travel arrangements are sorted before you set off.

Not only is this a convenient and cost-effective way to go from door to door without any hassle, you will also be greeted by a friendly and professional driver once you land… and you’ll know the whole family will be taken care of.
