A Serene Stay in Costa del Silencio

For travellers who enjoy holidays involving both adventuring and chilling out, a trip to Costa del Silencio should definitely be added to your bucket list. Perched on the southern tip of Tenerife, this peaceful paradise offers a myriad of attractions – still relatively unknown to tourists who often favour the more well-known destinations in the Canary Islands. Whatever you’re looking for on your getaway, you’re more than likely to find it here.

Beach-lovers will enjoy kilometres of golden coastline, while the more adventurous types can make the most of the breath-taking mountains and incredible volcanic terrain. For culture vultures, the delectable Spanish-style cuisine and colourful fiestas await discovery.

The climate in this destination has a perfectly laid-back air to it, offering the heat of Africa cooled by Atlantic breezes that have rendered the area a world-class water-sports haven. It’s ideal for all types of holidaymaker!

So whether you’re looking for an adrenaline rush, a sun-soaked recharge or just a good old party, Costa del Silencio is guaranteed to please.

My Must-Sees

Despite not having a beach of its own, this purpose-built resort is only a short walk from what is known as the gateway to the Atlantic Ocean. Las Galletas, a once unassuming fishing village now turned major resort, entices visitors with its sparkling waters and inviting waves. In fact, it’s the surf that brings travellers to the town rather than the beaches, which host an array of water-sports fun ranging from diving to boating.

If you’re more of a land-lover, set your sights to the east where you’ll spot Montana Amarilla, a small seaside mountain offering a host of walking trails leading up to magnificent coastal views. Those hungry for something a little more daring and off-the-beaten-track will enjoy a day trip to Pico del Teide! Sitting at the centre of the island, Spain’s tallest mountain is a draw for anyone who’s wild at heart.

Extra Adrenaline-Pumping Adventures

  • Tear up the dirt on the major mountain biking scene as you explore the mountainous terrain
  • Fly through the air and try an afternoon of paragliding at Fasnia
  • Embrace the sea breeze and try your hand at windsurfing
  • Dive deep and discover an underwater world on a submarine safari

For Culture Vultures

While the resort-studded coasts of Tenerife are mostly tourist based, those who are willing to venture beyond the popular areas will find that there’s a huge amount of culture to be discovered. The Canary Islands have been a crossroads for culture throughout history, and as you explore the island you’ll discover influences from all over the globe. Each village you stumble upon will have its own unique food and customs, so immerse yourself in the diversity of the island and explore its authenticity while you’re away.

Top Tip: To enjoy unique architecture, head to Laguna or Garachico, while those looking for something a little more lively should head the capital, Santa Cruz: an unmissable destination during Carnival.

Foodie Favourites

When it comes to food, there are plenty of familiar, international offerings, so even the fussiest of eaters won’t go hungry. However, for the foodies looking to sample the local cuisine, you’ll delight in the Spanish dishes that are on offer. Treat yourself to fresh fish and seafood, award-winning goat’s milk cheeses and sumptuous wines produced by the island’s own vineyards which are gaining stature every year.

For the Beach Bums

Although there is so much on offer in Tenerife, the sandy shores located just short journeys from Costa del Silencio really are the sovereign jewels in island’s golden crown. Renowned as a beach lover’s paradise, the southern coastline boasts an extensive stretch of magnificent beaches. So, if you’re worried about crowds, you can take your pick.

The obvious top of the list is Las Galletas, the largest and most popular beach, boasting a modern marina and Canarian harbour. Follow the sandy border further west and you’ll arrive at Los Cristianos with its large, seafront promenade. Further still and Playa de las Americas comes into view with its huge shores and the long list of attractions. If you’re looking for a place to access the smaller, less crowded beaches, then head to Costa Adeje.
