48 Hours of Active Adventure in Palma Nova

Palma Nova, on the stunning Balearic island of Mallorca, is a popular destination with a range of demographics – not least because of its gorgeous beaches, balmy weather, and plethora of things to do. Families love it, romantic couples love it, culture vultures love it, and for anyone looking for an active, energetic holiday, it’s a dream!

Two Days of Outdoor Fun in Palma Nova

Situated on the south west coast of the island, a short distance from the capital, Palma, this lively but laid back resort offers a huge variety of outdoor activities – from relaxed boat rides to high-octane physical adventures. Here’s just a taste of what you might want to consider if you’re stopping over for a couple of days in Palma Nova.

Day One: Get Busy on the Beach

Palma Nova has three main beaches: Son Maties, Na Nadala and Es Carregador. It might be very tempting to simply laze around and soak up the sun, but if you want to expend a little more energy, there are plenty of options for that, too.

  • Snorkelling: You can join a snorkelling boat tour, which takes you out to some of the most gorgeous spots on the island to delve into the underwater world in a safe, friendly environment. It’s suitable for anyone, including beginners, and all equipment and a safety briefing are provided. (Duration around 3.5 hours)

Salou

  • Open water swimming: This is the most brilliant place to try open water swimming as the waters are calm and safe. You can swim along the length of the beaches from end to end quite comfortably, but if you go out slightly further, you should wear an inflatable marker.

Most of the traditional watersports are available either at Palma Nova beaches or nearby Calvia, including:

  • Paddleboarding
  • Stand-up paddle boarding
  • Jet skis
  • Wing foiling (a step up from kite surfing)
  • Wake surfing
  • Pedalos (a little more sedate, but fun)
  • Beach volleyball (the beaches here play host to some of the biggest tournaments in the world)

Or you can just get back to that sunbathing…

Day Two: Head to the Hills for Hiking and Biking

The entire island of Mallorca is superb for hiking and cycling (from a leisurely outing to something more strenuous), and the area around Palma Nova is particularly good, with its close proximity to the Tramuntana mountain range. If you’re walking or hiking, all you’ll need is a good pair of shoes, a supply of snacks and water, and perhaps a map of the area – although the many trails are pretty well signposted, and you can choose to join an organised small group tour if you fancy doing it with new friends. If you prefer cycling, various companies in the town hire out bikes – including e-bikes, mountain bikes, city bikes and road bikes, depending on your standard of proficiency and where you plan on going.

Head into the rolling hills, to meander or pump those pedals along cool, shaded paths, or tackle steeper, more challenging mountain trails; or cycle or stroll along the lovely seaside promenades, stopping off for a drink and lunch or to admire the luxury yachts in port.

With the convenience of Palma Nova as a base, you can choose from short rides or walks, or full-day adventures with a packed picnic lunch to cover a lot more ground. The beauty of getting out and about slightly away from the resort is the opportunity to get a different vantage on the landscape, take in some truly spectacular elevated views, and experience something of the region aside from the beaches and nightclubs – although, it must be said, both those aspects are a reason in and of themselves to book a two-day stay in Palma Nova!

However long you have, this lovely town will appeal for its diversity, affordability, and the sheer unadulterated beauty of the Balearic Islands.

Choosing the Right Transfer
