For those visiting the picturesque Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca, there’s certainly no shortage of attractions at your disposal to make for an interesting and action-packed itinerary. If you’re lucky enough to be staying in or around Alcúdia (Puerto Alcúdia), in the north-eastern corner of the island, you’ve made an excellent choice. Here are just three of the many and varied attractions you can enjoy.
Beaches, Water Sports and More
So, you’re on an island, on the coast – no guessing what the top attraction here is then! The beaches of Alcúdia are renowned as being among the best on the entire island, and their diversity – from the busy and bustling tourist beach of Alcúdia Beach to the more remote and unspoilt shores of Coll Baix – means there’s pretty much a beach to suit your every mood. For those who want to get the pulse racing, the range of water sports is extensive and includes snorkelling, scuba diving, parasailing and windsurfing. Lessons are available, so there’s no need to worry if you’re a novice or you have younger children with you. Another way to enjoy the water is to explore a little further afield on a boat trip along the picturesque coast.
Explore the Old Town
As with most ancient medieval settlements throughout Europe, Alcúdia has what is known as an ‘Old Town’, and it is here you can learn the most about the region’s fascinating past. Considering its history and age, Alcúdia’s Old Town has borne the ravages of time well; although large swathes of the city walls and ramparts have been rebuilt, there are still some that remain standing in their original condition. You can wander atop the walls and take in stunning views across the city and pass by the various gates, including the imposing Sant Sebastia gate, and the Xara (or Del Porte) gate. Also along the way you’ll see the impressive Church of Sant Jaume (well worth a look inside) and the smallest Roman theatre in Spain, which is hewn out of rock.

Thrills and Spills At the Hidropark
Getting wet and wild isn’t limited to water sports in the ocean around Alcúdia. For those travelling with children, a visit to the Hidropark will see you rise to lofty heights in the popularity stakes! Just a very short distance from the town centre of Alcúdia, this is the only waterpark in the north of Mallorca. Encompassing a massive 40,000 square metres of watery fun, it’s on for young and old at Hidropark! With intriguingly named waterslides like the Kamikaze and the Spiral there is also a wave pool, mini-park complete with castle, and Children’s World, the ideal place for the younger ones.
There’s so much to enjoy in Alcúdia, but these three attractions should give you a good running start on your holiday fun!
How to Get There: Alcúdia
The most common way to get to Mallorca is by air, but you can also get a ferry from Barcelona, Denia and Valencia. You can pre-book a Mallorca airport transfer online, which will give you the option of shared or private transport to get you direct to your accommodation in Alcúdia.
