All aboard the ski train

London to Lyon direct in 4hrs 40mins

Eurostar have now made travelling into the Alps for your winter holiday a whole lot easier and, compared to air travel, a great deal more comfortable. You can now travel from London St Pancras to Lyon direct, a journey time of approx. 4 hours and 40 mins. Your skis or snowboard also travel for free and a generous luggage allowance of two main bags and one piece of hand luggage is included at no extra charge.

There have been many discussions regarding the “Train versus Plane” decision and it does come down to location being key as to whether the train is a time and money saver or not. If you are travelling from London or the South/South East of England then this may be genuinely a better option than the rigmarole of a Saturday London to Geneva flight. Also, depending on what month you are travelling, the train option may be a great deal cheaper than an airfare. An example of a family of 4 flying from Gatwick to Geneva return for 26th March to 2nd of April, with Easyjet prices are around £1200 versus £800 return by train.

From Lyon you can reach all the main ski resorts of the Haute-Savoie and Savoie using private or shared transfer services, in most cases taking the same amount of time or less than if you had arrived into Geneva Airport. This central location makes getting to resort very straight forward, whether you are heading to Chamonix, Megeve, La Clusaz, Tignes, Val Thorens or Les Deux Alpes.

This service is a great addition to the established night Ski Train which runs direct to Bourg St Maurice. This train leaves London on the Friday evening and arrives in Bourg St Maurice on Saturday morning with the return trip departing Bourg St Maurice on the evening of the following Saturday, therefore maximising your time on the slopes. From Bourg St Maurice you have easy access to Tignes, Val d’Isere and Les Arcs. Furthermore the service also stops before Bourg St Maurice, at Moutiers and Aime giving access to the Three Valleys and La Plagne.
