The words ‘Mallorca’ and ‘good times’ are made for each other, and once the sun goes down you can pretty much find a party wherever you go. While Alcudia, in the north of the island, is renowned for its laidback, family-friendly vibe, there’s also a surprisingly vibrant nightlife and pub scene for the young, free and single visitors! Here’s where the locals go themselves and would recommend to visitors.
Alcudia’s Best Clubs
Down at the buzzing port area, the Bananas Disco Complex is a magnet for partygoers not only from Alcudia, but from many of the neighbouring towns, too. During summer, there are organised parties every weekend and it’s known as ‘the’ place to go in the north of Mallorca. The best thing is you don’t have to go far as there are several clubs in the complex, each with their own personality – including Unik, La Nit, Apple, Cinq Glops and, the most famous, the Banana Club.
The Banana Club is popular with the younger crowd, holding regular themed nights with the latest European club music and plenty of drinks promos if you’re looking to party on the cheap. You can’t miss the entrance as it’s topped off by a giant glass pyramid that rises out of the complex, but don’t show up too early as the doors don’t even open until around 10:30pm. (There are plenty of other pubs and clubs in the complex to keep you busy until then, though.)
The Banana Club gives Magaluf a run for its money with its ubiquitous foam parties, circus nights, pyjama parties and even a combination of random themes – like the famous Foam and Paint party. Entry cover charge starts from around €8 (depending on the event), but you’ll get a couple of drink tickets for that and the bouncers aren’t averse to waiving the cover charge if you make the effort to come in your most imaginative fancy dress costume! (The Banana Club is open 7 days a week until 6am and is located in the Bananas Disco Complex, Avda. Tucan, 1, 2nd floor, Port d’Alcudia.)
A Little Bit of Spanish Craic
The spirit of the Irish ‘craic’ is alive and well and living in Alcudia, with not one but two authentic Irish pubs to get your fix of all things Irish. The Irish Tavern is tucked into a lovely pedestrianised street in the port and serves up a number of different Guinness varieties on tap, as well as a good selection of lagers, wines and even some well-priced cocktails starting from about €5. You’ll even get your chance to have a chat to Guinness the bar cat if you arrive before his bedtime. (Located at C/Mariners 14, 07410 Port d’Alcudia and open until around 11pm nightly.)
The Shamrock Irish Pub is a fantastic fusion of restaurant, café and pub, with live music, a casual atmosphere, and that inimitable Irish sense of fun. You can get a great meal of American style cuisine, including hot dogs and pizza (try the special €5 menu), washed down with a huge selection of beers, wines, cocktails and, of course, Guinness. Always fairly loud and lively, it’s not the place for a quiet drink, but it is the place for a vigorous game of table football, some Sky Sports action, and a fun evening with mates before heading to the clubs. (Located at Carrer Torreta, 3, Alcudia and open until 3am, 7 days a week.)
No matter whether you want an all-nighter club experience or a more casual and relaxed evening, Alcudia delivers on its promise of fun once the sun goes down.
How to Get to Alcudia
Just two hours from the UK by air, Alcudia makes the perfect short break destination. You’ll fly into Palma Mallorca, an airport serviced by plenty of budget airlines from the UK and the rest of Europe. Once you land, the fastest way to complete the final part of the journey direct to the door of your accommodation is to prebook a convenient Mallorca airport taxi with Shuttle Direct, which will take around 45 minutes.
If you want to take public transport, you can get a bus from the airport to the centre of the city, then connect with local service to Alcudia, and if you’re arriving through mainland Spain, direct flights are available to Palma Mallorca or you can take a ferry from Valencia, Denia or Barcelona (prebookings are advised).
