Mallorca is the ideal destination for those who love stunning coastlines, crystal-clear blue water and gorgeous sandy beaches, and for disabled travellers, the beautiful town of Alcúdia offers even more.
If you or a family member has any accessibility requirements, the island of Mallorca is ready to welcome you with open arms. In this article, you’ll find out exactly why Alcúdia is the perfect spot.
Getting Out…
Playa de Muro Beach
This is the top beach in all of Mallorca when it comes to accessibility. There are a total of eight walkways installed here meaning that those visiting the beach using a wheelchair can do so with no problems at all. The experienced and hard-working lifeguards on the beach are yet another sign that the beach is safe and available for all.
Top Tip: During the summer months, an amphibious chair service is provided for disabled people. Have a completely unique experience in the water that you’ll remember for life!
Palma Aquarium
The island is home to a stunning array of wildlife, and one of the best places to learn more about the huge diversity of species here is to pay a visit to the Palma Aquarium. Here, you’ll not only have the chance to get up-close and personal with some of these fascinating creatures, but you’ll also learn a huge amount thanks to the helpful and friendly staff. The aquarium is wheelchair friendly, so you’ve got nothing to worry about on that front!
Getting Active…
The Handisport Project
If you’re a disabled traveller who’s into sport, you can’t choose a better holiday destination than Mallorca. Handisport Mallorca is an exciting project encouraging disabled people to get active. They organise a great range of activities both for disabled travellers and their families, including everything from sailing and scuba diving to kayaking and golf.
Created back in 2007, the Fundacion Handisport Project was founded with the hope of providing the opportunity for disabled visitors to Mallorca to get involved with the sports that they already love or would like the opportunity to try. Started up by families, for families, the project has already been hugely successful and promises to go from strength to strength, catering for all abilities and accessibility needs.
