72 Hours in Amazing Albufeira

With its picturesque coastlines of secret coves, sandy beaches, and rugged cliffs, the Algarve region offers beauty as well as laid-back vibes as a beach holiday destination. There are plenty of resort towns to choose from, depending on your holiday checklist. However, my personal favourite is the charming old fishing village of Albufeira.

Despite being a tourist hotspot, I love this resort as it’s managed to retain its beautiful heritage and character. Characterised by narrow streets leading you past traditional white-washed homes and sweet fisherman’s cottages – and let’s not forget the gorgeous beach! But it’s not all about relaxing, because the town has also got a fantastic array of nightlife for the more adventurous traveller.

Get to Know Albufeira in 3 Days

If you have the time, I’d recommend spending at least a few days in this area to experience everything Albufeira has to offer. Here’s an idea of what you could get up to.

Day One: Explore the Beaches

Since it’s home to some of the best coastline in the country, you really must dedicate an entire day to exploring the very best beaches that Albufeira has to offer. There’s more than 30 kilometres of sand to explore, and each beach or cove offers a unique atmosphere. I’d suggest starting with the Praia dos Pescadores, as it’s right in front of the old town. Top tip: the further down you walk, the quieter it gets.

For something a little more special, I recommend a visit to Marinha Beach, one of Portugal’s most beautiful beaches. Surrounded by limestone cliffs and sparkling waters, this is truly a place to remember.

Day Two: Visit Carvoeiro or Parque Aventura

I’d suggest picking just one of these, as the latter definitely requires a bit of energy. If you want to dive deeper into the local culture, take a day trip to the nearby village of Carvoeiro. It’s fairly small but makes a perfect activity for a relaxing day of wandering the streets and perhaps doing a spot of snorkelling. If you feel like doing something a little more exhilarating, visit Parque Aventura. This thrilling and popular treetop obstacle course is challenging but extremely fun.

Day Three: Explore Benagil Cave

This is an incredible natural cave that has been worn into the rugged landscape through many years of erosion, and one of the area’s top attractions. If you’re in the area, it’s really an unmissable highlight of the Algarve. While you can drive there, taking a boat, paddle board or kayak are other fun ways to travel!
