48 Hours in Cala’n Bosch for Families

Anyone with children knows how difficult it can be to find a holiday destination that offers enough attractions to keep the kids occupied, while also having appeal to parents. Menorca, one of Spain’s beautiful Balearic islands, has long been popular with families for this very reason. It’s one place that absolutely everyone falls in love with, and, once visited, it’s not unusual for families to return, year after year.

One of the major benefits is that, for a small island, Menorca packs a punch in terms of its offering of resorts. There’s a lot to see, do and experience all over the island, but for families, Cala’n Bosch (on the south-west coast) really is superb. Visit for two weeks and you wouldn’t regret it, but even if you’ve only got a few days to dedicate to this lovely resort, that’s long enough to make lasting memories.

Two Days to Make Holiday Memories

The purpose-built resort is only about fifteen minutes from Ciutadella, which is the island’s second largest city, but it feels a million miles away. Gorgeous beaches, lots of restaurants, fun-filled activities, and attractions on the doorstep – the question really is, what’s not to love? If you’re planning a short visit as part of a longer holiday on Menorca, here’s what two days could look like.

Day One: Hit the Beach

Naturally, the beach is a high priority here, and the kids will no doubt be keen to get onto it as soon as possible. You really should dedicate a full day to having fun in the sun!

There’s actually a choice of two beaches: the main one at Cala’n Bosch, and Son Xoriguer, which is situated just around the headland, only five minutes away on foot.

It depends on the age of your children, but as a general rule of thumb, the resort’s own beach is better for younger children, with its shallow waters, deep shores and fine white sand, while over at Son Xoriguer, there’s a slew of watersports available, which will appeal to slightly older children (and parents). You could even do one in the morning and move to the other in the afternoon, depending on your mood. In a nutshell you can expect:

  • Shallow waters
  • Deep shores
  • Lifeguards on duty
  • Good facilities
  • Close to the Marina for refreshments and amenities
  • Watersports: water skiing, canoeing, windsurfing, sailing, paragliding, sea kayaking, jet skis, flyboarding.

Cala en Bosch

The beauty of these beaches is that your accommodation will only ever be a few minutes away, so at the end of a long day, you can simply pick up your towels, buckets, and spades and walk home.

Top tip: There’s a ‘mini train’ that runs between Cala’n Bosch and Son Xoriguer, which kids absolutely love!

Day Two: Hit the Fun Parks

Even though most children would be happy to make day two a carbon copy of day one, once they hear what you’ve got in store, it won’t be too hard to convince them.

Aquarock Waterpark in the morning

First up, after a leisurely breakfast you can head along to everybody’s holiday favourite – a waterpark! Just up the road in Ciutadella, Aquarock features a host of watery attractions, with something for all ages.

There’s Menorca’s only wave pool, which makes you feel like you’re frolicking in the ocean, a host of slides in differing lengths, including the appropriately named Zigzag and Kamikaze, multiple swimming pools, Jacuzzis, children’s ramps and plenty of places to grab some refreshments. There are also lots of sunbeds and places for parents to relax while the kids are off having adventures of the watery kind.

As the park itself claims, “the fun is guaranteed”, and in fact it wouldn’t be hard to spend the entire day here…

Top Tip: Adjacent to the waterpark is the karting centre, which offers some thrills for the older children.

Goody Goody Park in the afternoon

Situated just by the Marina, Goody Goody Park is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon – and the good thing is you’ll be very close to home if certain members of the family begin to tire. It’s basically a good old-fashioned fun park (in a fabulous location right on the beach) with all the bells and whistles, including bumper cars, a bouncy castle, trampolines, a huge ball pit, and a whole range of the latest amusement games suitable for all ages.

Once everyone’s had their fill of fun, you can wander to the Marina for dinner at one of the many restaurants.
