2 Days, 2 Day Trips From Cala’n Bosch

Cala’n Bosch, Menorca is a purpose-built resort dating back to the 1980s. I always love visiting these well-established resorts; not just because they tend to have the best quality hotels and services, but also because of their charm and history. Of course, Cala’n Bosch is best-known for its soft, white sand beach and sparkling blue ocean, so it’s the perfect place for those looking to lounge on the shore and occasionally cool off with a dip in calm, clear waters. However, after a day or two of relaxing, you might be itching to explore and discover more about the local region – luckily, Cala’n Bosch is surrounded by plenty of cultural gems.

If you’re like me and enjoy mixing up your time at the beach with a few culture-rich day trips, then you’ll love these two options.

Ciutadella

Often touted as the most beautiful city in Menorca, Ciutadella is an enchanting maze of warm-toned buildings steeped in history – and it’s only a 12-minute drive away from Cala’n Bosch. While there are a few must-see sights, my best piece of advice in a place like this is to give yourself time to wander the ancient streets and simply enjoy the art of stumbling upon something wonderful – because you will.

The historic centre is small, condensed, and easily walkable, so it’s a great place to start. Here you’ll find the breathtaking Ciutadella Cathedral, which is one of the best-preserved Catalan Gothic buildings on the island. Built on the site of an old mosque, the history is palpable as you step into the cool, inviting refuge.

There’s plenty more to discover just by walking around admiring the architecture and ducking down the many small streets and alleys. After you’re done exploring, make your way to the Mercat Municipal, for some local food and refreshments. As is often the case, where there’s food there’s culture, and this is a wonderful place to spend time experiencing the beating heart of the city.

Mahon

From the past capital to the current one, Mahon has more of a modern, buzzy vibe than its older sibling, Ciutadella, but that doesn’t make it any less interesting in terms of culture and historical highlights. If you enjoy getting to know a place through its food and culture, then Mahon is the perfect day trip, and it’s just 50 minutes away from Cala’n Bosch, by road. (You can drive or catch a local bus – although the timetables can be rather erratic.)

The unique thing about Mahon is that it’s spread over two distinct levels. The historic centre, with its picturesque streets and charming ambience, sits atop a cliff that overlooks the natural harbour. Down below, you’ll find the marina and a bustling street of shops and bars. Start in the Old Town, then make your way down to the bustling harbour promenade, where you can enjoy local delicacies such as Menorcan gin and exquisite, freshly caught seafood.

This joyful accommodation is an ideal base for those who plan to explore as well as relax.

Grupotel Aldea Cala’n Bosch – Take your pick from these sleek modern apartments that offer guests their own kitchen and a private terrace. You’ll be treated to delicious local cuisine at the onsite restaurant and, my favourite part, guests have private access to the beach just 100m away.

How to Get There

Menorca has been attracting tourists from the UK for decades, thanks to its balmy climate and beautiful beaches. The best time to visit is between May and October, when you can expect gorgeous weather, although flights can be more expensive (particularly August). If you plan to fly during this period, I’d suggest looking for flights in July or September when the weather is still great, but prices drop down to as little as £56. Plenty of airlines offer direct flights, including TUI, easyJet, and Ryanair, so you shouldn’t have a problem.

Since this is a popular destination, I’d recommend pre-booking a Menorca airport transfer with Shuttle Direct. This means that when you arrive, someone will be waiting to whisk you straight to your accommodation. A transfer from Menorca airport to Cala’n Bosch is around 50 minutes, so having your journey pre-arranged will ensure that your holiday begins as smoothly as possible.

Choosing the Right Transfer

It’s great to have so many options to choose from. However, to help you select the right service, I recommend considering two main factors so that you feel confident when booking your Menorca airport transfer.

Cost: Probably the most important aspect when choosing your airport transfer is your budget. If you’re trying to save money to spend on other parts of the holiday, choosing one of our shared services will suit.

Convenience: The next thing to consider is your individual needs and travel style. If door-to-door service is important or you’re not keen on sharing with other passengers, one of our private services will suit you better.
